I came across this outstanding video providing an explanation as to why our government continues to spend more than what the people claim to want. Professor Ben Powell shows how our political system naturally leads to overspending. As I mentioned in “Takers not Makers”, American households have taken $2.3 trillion in government support in 2010. American households paid only $2.2 trillion in taxes. Nearly 60% received at least one form of federal benefit, while only 48% paid any federal income tax. The answer is not   making those who already pay taxes pay more. No, the answer is the country must expand its revenue base. Until then, our budget problems will continue.
