Bob Herbert is leaving The New York Times after nearly 20 years.
Mr. Herbert’s resignation was announced in a memo to Times staff members on Friday. His last column will appear in the paper on Saturday.
Mr. Herbert, who started his Times column in 1993, was known for his combative style, blunt language and progressive politics. In a message accompanying the announcement, Mr. Herbert, who is 66, said he was eager to move on to a new form of writing.
It is unclear if this “new form of writing” will involve either English or research, if so the 66-year-old goofus may find mastering them difficult after 40 years of neglect.
I won’t bore you with details, but suffice it to say if you Google ‘bob herbert idiot’ you get 179,000 hits. Take your time and read a few. Some are really a hoot.
Herbert was a one trick pony who managed to link every conceivable happening to racism. Snowstorm? Racism. Crop failure? Racism. Pubic lice infestation? Racism. Boils on your ass? Racism.
Some might attribute his continued to employment to affirmative action, I mean how else could his editors be so profoundly stupid to over look his lack of talent, nay, not talent, coherence? I don’t. They just unloaded Frank Rich who was, if anything, at least as stupid and inarticulate and Herbert.
Reading this announcement reminds one of one of those “I want to spend more time with my family” resignations issued by disgraced politicians and CEOs.
Andrew Rosenthal, editor of The Times opinion pages, said in the memo that he accepted Mr. Herbert’s resignation with “great regret.”
“He was often called ‘the conscience of The Times,’” Mr. Rosenthal wrote. “We will miss him and wish him the best in his new endeavors.”
No replacement has been announced but we can rest assured Herbert’s replacement will be just as left and just as dumb.
