I viewed the talking points memo by Fox new’s Bill O’Reilly “is President Obama destroying his own legacy?” and was struck by the absurdity of the Obama Administration’s position on the middle east. In a speech that took place at the Brooking’s Institute, National Security Adviser Susan Rice stated
While the dangers we face may be more numerous and varied they are not of the existential nature we confronted during World War II or during the cold war.
We will always act to defend our country and it’s people but we aim to avoid sending many thousands of ground forces into combat in hostile lands.
O’Reilly goes on to state that
the Obama administration apparently believes that the bombing campaign and secondary measures will eventually downgrade ISIS. In the meantime thousands of people are dying and thousands of people are plotting to come here to kill Americans
During World War II , the bombing campaign did in fact downgrade Nazi military might. After the Nazi Army in the West was pushed back past the borders of Germany what made the Nazi regime an existential threat at that point? Russia could have conquered the whole of the German nation without American boots crossing the Rhine. We could have continued to degrade Nazi capabilities by using our air superiority while letting the Russians do all the heavy lifting but during that time hundreds of thousands, maybe millions more would have died.
Maybe the world would not have learned the truth about the death camps or the Nazi’s final solution”. But isn’t how the Nazi leaders abused the people they ruled the very thing that elevates Nazis to the level of existential threat? The record of mass murder because of religion, ethnic cleansing, or political disagreement, and the sex trafficking, mutilations, and and deadly slavery.
And yet we know that what the Islamic State and other Islamic Imperial vassals organizations like Boko Haram are doing is the very same thing as made the Nazi’s an existential threat. Does Susan Rice deny the connection between the Nazi leadership and their Islamic allies? It is the Holocaust that turned the failed imperial ambition of a few thousand Nazi’s into an existential threat to mankind. The Obama administration presented a similar comparison as justification to pick winners and losers during the “Arab Spring”.
We are beginning to see in the acts of imposing slavery and subjugation, sex trafficking, and mass murder to accomplish ethnic and religious cleansing why the Arab governments we turned our back on during that Arab Spring kept the leaders of these barbaric groups on a tight leash in a dark hole in the ground. And in spite of all this, Rice doesn’t recognize the direct connection between the Nazi final solution and the similar behavior of the newest incarnation of the Nazi’s ally, the Islamic Empire or Boko Haram or the existential they represent.
Or is it that Rice doesn’t believe there is a connection, or that the threat is existential because she doesn’t give credence to the Nazi Holocaust in the first place.
