It’s amazing how addictive being a politician can be. As Pennsylvannia’s longest serving Senator, Arlen Spector can’t seem to accept that his 5 terms may soon be history. He is behind in the polls. His competition Congressman Pat Toomey is ahead by 15-21 points (depending on who you quote). Being part of the ruling team may just deliver the boost he needs. Of course, those of both parties often view Specter as unreliable and quick to overvalue his own importance. This twice stricken cancer survivor’s 79 years have not tempered his biting personality. But the Democrats need that hedge against the filibuster. With Specter in place, can Franken be far behind?
