Regarding those who would go after an 18 month old downs child . . .

“And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believes in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.” MT 18:5-6, NIV

I’ve been wondering what on earth motivates such scoundrels who would go after an innocent child; what has this 18 month old little boy done to them to warrant such a take-no-prisoners frame of reference? Then it hit me. The answer is so obvious.

Below is what I envision as the way that entire cabal would respond if confronted and forced to explain themselves:

Dear Governor Palin

Greetings from the other side of the political/social/cultural spectrum. Those of us who are opposed to you and all you stand for would like to address the question which hasn’t been asked; the question which, to our delight, likely pulsates and quiver in the very back of your mind; the nagging querry which at best gives you pause and at worst chips away at your faith in the basic goodness of all people: the question, “WHY??”

“Why the incessant and heartless attacks upon Trig? What did he ever do to deserve such cruel bullying? Why has he been singled out to receive such assaults on his dignity?”

C’mon, Governor, hasn’t it dawned on you yet? Trig’s great sin was being born. Period! He was never supposed to have happened. You were supposed to do the sensible and proper thing by disposing of him. His very existence sullies our precious sacrament of abortion. He flies in the face of our eugenic conscript. We are the sole authority on the value of a given human life, the unique determinors of what constitutes the definition of human even.

You dare to thumb your nose at our pronouncements and proclaim that the culture isn’t ours to manipulate at our whim, and expect no repercussions. Wake up, Governor, we’re just gettin’ started.
