What Obama Should Be Saying to the Iranians

Not the government, the people

230 years ago, people who lived in a largely unknown part of the world found themselves under the thumb of a tyrant thousands of miles away.  They were unfairly and heavily taxed by a government that did not even represent them, but ruled over them. Thus was born the American Revolution, in which a people stood up and fought and defeated tyranny and set in place a superior form of government. A government that recognized the rights and sovereignty of the people, where the people would lend their sovereignty to the government to maintain order, handle affairs and provide for their defense.

Iran is at a crossroads. On one hand, you could acquiesce to the demands of your government. On the other, you can continue to fight, as you have begun for what you know is yours: your liberty. Every soul not involved in perpetrating the tyranny under which you are currently living thirsts for liberties and freedoms which you have been denied for so long. You have made your choice. Fight! Liberty will never arrive on the backs of those who resign themselves to acquiescence. In all of history, freedom and liberty have been bought and paid for with the blood and sweat of men whose souls hungered for freedom, that their posterity may breathe free. So fight now. You have already taken your fight to the streets. Continue to march on as to battle. Take your fight to the capitol. Your country’s leadership has threatened violence against you. They do so in frantic desperation, because they are aware that they cannot stand against you. Take what is yours!

The great British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, during World War II saw the desperation of his people. In what is, perhaps his greatest speech he stood before the British House of Commons and said:

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender…

So, go now on to the end. Fight in the streets and on the rooftops. Fight on the street corners, in the mountains and in the desert, but go on until the end, and never surrender. Liberty is yours for the taking, and no government, no matter how well armed will be able to stop you.

Well, that’s what I would say, anyway
