A Farewell to (Philosopher) Kings

I’d rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.

– William F. Buckley (HT: Brainyquote.com)

Dr. David Evans says openly what the Gods of The Copybooks fear to say aloud. Namely that
“The Western Climate Establishment is Cheating.”

This doesn’t involve one or two rogues with a test tube of cold fusion. This is not a faction of academics settling professional scores with other professional academics. This is a systematic, deliberate campaign of disinformation designed to deliberately prevent the vast majority of the population from being properly informed regarding the basis of major political decisions.

We are told that issues such as Healthcare Reform and Climate Science are technical and hard. Therefore, it is reasoned that we, the people should let they, the experts, handle these problems. However, letting the experts handle it has become an increasingly risky proposition, because the experts no longer display altruistic motivations that are ascribed to their persons.

The experts increasingly leverage the fact that their assymetrical information places them in a position to use and abuse power not available to less informed citizens of the Republic. They become, in rough effect, Platonic Philosopher Kings. And yet still, 2,500 years after the first Greek student raised the issue, no one can effectively explain quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

This has become particularly problematic in the recent debate over Climate Change and what political outcomes should result from current scientific opinion on the subject. A very small group of intellectuals have a vast wealth of nearly inscrutable technical data at their fingertips. They are paid and serve and the sufferance of the political establishment. Very little verification of their work occurs outside of their tightly-knit professional clique. Their stated scientific opinions have potentially expensive ramifications, both for themselves, and for society as a whole.

Thus, Dr. Evans has come forward to argue that they essentially “cheat” on their science to get the results that maximize their own personal power and welfare without necessarily referencing that actual physical nature of the scientific phenomena that they are purportedly experts in. He cites a laundry list of examples which follow below.

Official thermometers are overwhelmingly in warm localities such as near air conditioner exhaust vents, buildings, concrete, tarmac, asphalt, and even fermenting vats of warm sludge. Officials hide the modern ARGO data which shows the world’s oceans are cooling. They ignore hundreds of thousands of weather balloon results that show the climate models overestimate future warming by at least 300%. Officials frequently point to the last 130 years of global warming. But almost never mention the full story: that the planet started the current global warming trend before 1700, over a century before humans started pumping out meaningful amounts of CO2. Leading authors publish a crucial graph with a deceptive colour scheme designed to imitate the results they wish they’d got. Their adjustments blatantly transform the original raw data from thermometers, often creating rising trends. They also selectively ignore thousands of other thermometers. Researchers repeatedly go out of their way to hide their records, and dodge FOIs.

This behavior is a trademark sign of corrupt “experts” at work. Many of the individuals involved in professional climate science have reached the conclusion that the general public is too stupid to tell whether they do their jobs honorably or just fake the results. This is how Michael Mann invents an algorithm designed to transform even randomly populated data sets into “hockey sticks” and then claims this model actually represents climate history for the last 500 years. When challenged, he immediately lapses into paranoid ad hominem. Mann describes the recent controversies over his work below.

“No doubt we are in for a period of months or even years where climate science is likely to be subject to the sort of politically motivated inquisition that we haven’t seen, frankly, since the 1950’s,” he (Dr. Mann) said.

Such is the prerogative of The Philosopher King. This individual knows better than you, knows more than you and therefore should truly run your life. He has no obligation to govern morally. Those guidelines exist for the Lilliputian plebes.

When confronted by adverse fact, they will forever argue to motive. When you fail to support ObamaCare; you are a racist. When you fail to agree with Dr. Mann; you are anti-science. If you don’t recognize your betters, they right books about people just like you. What’s The Matter With Kansas? by the bellicose-minded Thomas Frank, jumps to mind.

William F. Buckley was not in doubt of the intellect or perspicacity of the faculty of Harvard University. He was a smart enough man to recognize intellect in his peers. He stated his preference for random names from the phone book because he questioned their commitment to the commonweal.

This lack of faith disturbed Darth Vader greatly. However, it is an essential survival skill as we find our nation increasingly saddled with an elite that looks out for its own at our expense. Question everything that our society tells us is true. Do not bow to our leaders. The time has come to bid Farewell to Kings. You know way more than they will ever want you to believe that you do.
