The Minnesota Democratic Farm Labor Party (much less poetic a name than INGSOC), has just issued a mailer featuring a nice, happy picture of a Catholic Priest. The Priest wears a happy red, white and blue button. It reads “Ignore the Poor.”
I’m not Catholic myself, but the insult bristles. When Christophobic bigotry on the Taliban Dan Level becomes a part of the daily discourse, it becomes increasingly accepted and increasingly believed. It bristles against the backdrop of obvious evidence that the MDFLAP (or whatever INGSOC uses as an abbreviation in Minnesota), is lying through its clenched teeth.
Catholic Schools have an impressive list of achievements. The church details this set of accomplishments below.
2,403 Catholic schools – over 35% – had waiting lists for admission for the 2005-2006 academic year. 13.5% of students at Catholic schools in 2006, or 313,590,, are non-Catholic. Minority enrollment in Catholic schools for 2006 was 656,991 or 27% of total enrollment. 99% of Catholic secondary school students graduate, and 97% go on to post-secondary education. Most Catholic schools are now co-ed. One percent of all Catholic elementary schools and 33.1% of secondary schools are single gender. Based on the average public school per pupil cost of $8,019 Catholic elementary and secondary schools provide an almost $19.4 billion dollars a year savings for U.S. taxpayers. About 87% of elementary schools provide some form of tuition assistance.
The MDFLAP apparently still waits around for Superman. And then we get to the Catholic orphanages and hospitals….
In addition to hospitals, the Catholic health care network also includes 404 health care centers and 1,509 specialized homes. In 20 states, Catholic health care facilities account for more than 20% of admissions. Catholic hospitals employ over 598,934 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs). In 2005, there were more than 15.4 million emergency room visits and more than 86 million outpatient visits in Catholic hospitals.In 2005, the number of Catholic residential homes for children, or orphanages, totaled 235, serving a total of 50,264 young people.
I’m sorry, what has ObamaCare done for us again? Oh, and other than the 6.5 million who have received charity from over 1,600 Catholic charitable organizations, with over 51,000 paid staff and 175,000 unpaid volunteers, I guess the Catholics have just ignored the poor. Just so that I could completely humiliate the MDFLAP, the Catholic Church’s charitable organizations have even broken down their numbers by category of aid and assistance.
|Emergency Services Provided||People Helped|
|Food Services||6,597,998 People|
|Other Basic Needs Assistance||1,521,597 People|
|Temporary Shelter Services||201,653 People|
|Disaster Response Services||31,302 People|
|Transitional Housing Services||27,070 People|
This table could go on all day. I haven’t even broached the famine relief in Africa, or the social counseling services or the after school programs at the secondary Catholic schools mentioned above. All of which, unlike the $800B Stimulus Plan, can be categorized and traced to specific enumerations of beneficiaries. All of which, unlike the ObamaCare Plan (which is already on a track to exceed cost by $690B in the next decade) provides 90% of its revenues to actual poor people.
Perhaps, if the Catholic Church were a wee bit more like Islam, we might hear the following in response to this obvious Christophobic bigotry on the part of The Democrats in Minnesota.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the Valley of Darkness; for he is truly his brother’s keeper, and the finder of lost children. And, I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers! And, you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!
– Jules Winnfield Pulp Fiction
The Catholic Church has probably helped hundreds of thousands of more Minnesotans that either the stimulus or ObamaCare. They are beset by the tyranny of the iniquitous Democrats. They would never claim to be Lord, but on November the 2nd, both in Minnesota and nationwide, the followers of Christ can lay their vengeance upon the Christophobic bigots in charge of the Democratic Party. Then, that cute little button on the frock of the Priest can read “Ignore the Democrats.”
