Maine Delivers Message to Senators Collins and Snowe

Last Tuesday, in the middle of the Republican sweep, outside of New York 23, something else happened.  The voters in Maine sent a not so subtle message to Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe.  That message: do not tread on our traditional marriages.

In 2006, Collins and Snowe had and opportunity to defend traditional marriage and vote with the people of Maine.  Instead they stuck a thumb in the eye of their Maine constituents.  (See Roll Call Vote Here).  On election Tuesday, their constituents delivered them a clear mandate – the next time you have an opportunity to vote to protect marriage, you better be on the right side.

Obviously Maine is no conservative state. Collins and Snowe, two of the most liberal Senators, are proof positive of that, but two other items on last Tuesday’s ballot demonstrates that even further.  The Maine voters approved tax hikes and reduced restrictions on the use of marijuana for “medical” reasons.  Despite these liberal leanings, when the people of Maine had a chance to approve or disapprove gay marriage, they remember Sodom and Gomorrah.

The gay marriage elite have to be disturbed at this point.  They have been able to convince a few liberal judges to rule with them, but in 31 ballot initiatives, the people have confirmed that marriage is between one man and one woman.  Not only must they be disturbed, they have to be nervous.  If they cannot win in California and Maine, they have to realize that if they lose a few more states, the Constitution will in effect be amended without an amendment actually passing.  No doubt, if some liberal judge rules that equal protection requires gay marriage, the states will respond and we have a pretty good indication how they will respond.

The disappointing aspect of all of this is not solely the individuals engaging in an inappropriate lifestyle, but the fact that a number of “religious” clergy have come to their aid.  This religious clergy clearly has not read the Bible.  The reference to Sodom and Gomorrah earlier was partly in jest, but do not be deceived, there is no support for homosexuality inside Christianity.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do no be deceived: neither the sexually immoral … nor those who practice homosexuality … will inherit the kingdom of God.”

That’s not the only reference in scripture, but is certainly one of the many passages ignored by clergy who portray the gay movement as another Civil Rights movement.  They have simply ignored 1 Timothy 6:10 where it is made clear that the practice of homosexuality is contrary to sound doctrine.  Heretofore, Senators Collins and Snowe have also ignored sound doctrine.  Let’s hope the citizens of Maine made it clear to them with their votes on election Tuesday.
