More Hypocritical Liberals...

On April 27th, 2010 the City Council of the City of Los Angeles passed a resolution strongly condemning Arizona’s SB 1070, a bill which made illegal aliens guilty of a state crime and authorized local law enforcement agencies the ability to enforce immigration laws. In total, 13 councilmembers  voted “yea” in favor of passing the resolution which called for the economic boycott of the state of Arizona, and read in part that “SB 1070 seriously undermines the U.S. Constitution which grants Congress the exclusive power over immigration matters…”. On May 11th, 2010, the San Fransisco Board of Supervisors passed a similar resolution on behalf of both the city, and the county of, San Fransisco. It too was overwhelmingly approved.

On July 6th, 2010 the United States Department of Justice filed suit against the state of Arizona asking for the law to be declared invalid because immigration regulations are “exclusively vested in the federal government”. In a press release issued shortly after the filing of the lawsuit, attorneys for the Justice department stated that, “The Constitution and the federal immigration laws to not permit the development of a patchwork of state and local immigration policies throughout the country, and that the immigration framework set forth by Congress and administered by federal agencies reflects a careful and considered balance of national law enforcement, foreign relations, and humanitarian concerns-concerns that belong to the nation as a whole, and not a single state.”

In 2008, the United States Department of Homeland Security piloted “Secure Communities”, a program which relies on fingerprint data obtained by federal, state, and local law enforcement detention centers, to be compared to those fingerprints belonging to illegal aliens. When an illegal alien is detained by such a law enforcement agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issues an “Immigration Hold”, which requires the law enforcement agency to further detain the person until ICE is able to take custody of the alien. This year, the program was vastly expanded to more than 1,200 participating agencies and it is the goal of ICE to have the program fully implemented at all 3,100 agencies nationwide, by 2013. “Secure Communities” has been hugely successful in identifying and deporting over 140,000 illegal aliens; in other words, the program is doing exactly what it’s designed to do.

Today, Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks and Councilwoman Jan Perry urged the city to move forward in supporting a resolution limiting the scope of their participation in “Secure Communities”. Parks, the former Police Chief of Los Angeles, said, “I wanted to express what I believed was the position of this city over the last decades…from what I can read of the program (Secure Communities), a high percentage of those who are being deported have not necessarily committed the most serious crimes.” Unfortunately, Parks and Perry are not alone. Recently, San Fransisco County Sheriff Michael Hennessey completed drafting a new policy denying immigration holds for persons arrested for infractions and low-level misdemeanors, and it now appears Los Angeles wants to follow suit with San Fransisco in drafting a similar policy.

Only a year ago, the leaders of these cities were arguing that immigration policy and enforcement is the sole responsibility of the federal government. They launched economic boycott campaigns against the state of Arizona, and urged legal action to topple SB 1070. They held news conferences condemning Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. And all this in the name of protecting Congress’s Constitutional authority  to handle matters related to immigration.

Now, these hypocritical, idiotic liberals have decided that their communities should not participate in a federal program designed to identify and capture illegal aliens. That’s because a year ago it appeared that Congress was on their side (and it was with Congress being controlled by the Democratic party). Now that Congress is being controlled by the Republicans, apparently their Constitutional right to govern over immigration matters no longer exists.

Nobody is above the law. We must all abide by the rules set forth by this country’s lawmakers. In this country, it IS illegal to simply walk over the border and decide that this is where you want to live. Most polls show that Americans, by a very large margin, do not want illegal aliens in their country. I urge this majority to begin throwing the likes of Bernard Parks and Jan Perry out of office! It is this type of hypocritical liberal that threatens the very thread of our Democratic existence, and these people must be removed from office before they can inflict any further damage.
