Barack Obama declared on October 30, 2008: “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”
His pronouncement put America on notice that the culmination of the100-year march of progressivism in America was at hand. As we reach the end of Obama’s presidency, that transformation is almost complete.
This fundamental change in America is more insidious than a political shift to the left or a liberalization of social values. It has been engineered by those who want to destroy the very things that made America great – her constitution and her foundation on Judeo-Christian values. In their place we see the rising tide of progressivism and secularism.
Sadly, the American people are the ones who have not just allowed, but have caused this to happen. We have done it one person, one family, one neighborhood, one church, one textbook, one editorial, one workplace, and mostly one vote (or non-vote) at a time.
We elected officials at all levels of government who, rather than standing for what is right, appealed to our cries of ‘what’s in it for me.’ The American electorate is now mostly comprised of those who have been bought and those who remain in apathetic ignorance. As a result, the Constitution has been eroded over the years by the very people elected to uphold it. A government of ‘we the people’ has been replaced by a government of ‘we the powerful.’
Our Judeo-Christian foundations have been pushed aside because we bought the lie that faith is a private matter. We allowed prayer and the honoring of biblical morality to be removed from public education and the public square – covertly through political correctness and overtly by the courts. Moral relativism is now elevated in its place.
Donald Trump’s ascendency in the presidential race, even more than Hillary Clinton’s or Bernie Sanders’, is proof that this fundamental transformation is almost complete. He isn’t just anti-God or anti-constitution. It’s worse. He appears to consider both irrelevant, except when he can use them to garner votes or attention.
Remember the fable of the boiling frog?
They say that if you put a frog into a pot of boiling water, it will leap out right away to escape the danger. But, if you put a frog in a kettle that is filled with water that is cool and pleasant, and then you gradually heat the kettle until it starts boiling, the frog will not become aware of the threat until it is too late. The progressive overreach of the past decade has caused many Americans to recognize the hot water we are in, but will they do what it takes to survive?
Sometimes, all it takes is for a leader to show the way.
Who will be the champion of these survivors? Who can show us how to reverse the progressive goal of fundamentally transforming America?
It must be a leader whose life shows reliance on the wisdom of our founding documents and on the hand of Divine Providence.
It must be a leader whose calm steady hand will not demonize those who have been deceived by the progressive lies, but who will find common cause with all who love America and want her to survive and thrive into the future.
Only one presidential candidate is not a politician or part of the political class. In his closing statement during the January 28th debate, he called us to follow him out of a boiling cauldron of progressivism and back to a constitutional republic. He said,
Please think of our founding fathers as you listen:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Benefits [sic Blessings] of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of …
Folks, it’s not too late — enough said.
Google reported that searches for “Constitution Preamble” spiked 900 percent during the debate. Those folks understand that this is the way to get ourselves out of hot water. We the people can and must turn back to our founding principles. We can and must turn back to God. We need a president who will lead us in that direction.
