Some politicians want to BE something and others want to DO something.  Conservative Pamela Gorman who is by the far the best option to succeed Congressman John Shadegg in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District is clearly someone who entered the political arena not to BE something, but rather to DO something. If you’ve read anything on RedState or elsewhere about Pamela Gorman, you know that she led the fight against the Governor from her own Party and her own AZ GOP Chairman when those two determined that the answer to the state’s budget woes wasn’t to sufficiently cut spending (which had grown disproportionately under former Governor Napolitano) but rather to increase taxes on working families by $3 billion.

Gorman has clearly been the kind of leader than entered politics to pursue a conservative agenda before anything else and oppose anyone who attempts to thwart those efforts.  As an attractive, articulate, stubborn and outspoken, anti-tax, small government, pro-gun, pro-life conservative woman she obviously drives the left absolutely batty.  But she also stands tall against the big government, crony capitalist, establishment Republican types always looking for a little corporate welfare for themselves or their friends.  The tea party crowd loves Gorman but she needs our help if she’s going to win.  That’s why it’s critically important that true conservatives stand up for Gorman, follow her on Twitter (@pamelagorman), find her on Facebook, visit her website (www.Gorman2010.com) and be willing to contribute financially to her campaign and encourage friends to do the same.

There are three state legislators in this race.  Two are they type of candidate that want to BE something and Gorman distinguishes herself by being the type who clearly wants to DO something.  Neither of those two legislators has really done anything to promote the conservative cause in Arizona and certainly not nationally.  One (Sam Crump) actually led a coalition in California to pass an “insider deal” tax hike before moving to Arizona to run for Congress (that’s really what he said when he moved to Arizona).  Not surprisingly, now he’s a “conservative” and will oppose tax increases.  His record clearly suggests he might unless his “friends” decide to support a tax hike.  In fact, none of the candidates in the race have been a national conservative leader like Gorman and none have come close.  The best they have done is to decide to run for office and claim to be conservative (without any demonstrable record to prove it or give any true conservative comfort that they’ll be there when it matters).

As for Gorman, she not only ascended to leadership (Majority Whip) in the Arizona Senate (none of the others did), she also remarkably resigned that post rather than support the Senate President’s and Governor’s efforts to raise taxes on working Arizona families.  Be honest.  When is the last time you’ve heard of a leader in America giving up something just to fight for a larger principal like fighting tax increases?

Gorman serves on the National Legislative Advisory Board of the conservative Heartland Institute and has been a leader in the group’s International Conferences on Climate Change demanding reliance on real science and sound economics, not the religion of radical environmentalism.  Gorman served on the National Board for the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC) dedicated to gaining and maintaining Republican control of State Legislatures across the country.  Gorman served on the Executive Committee of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Task Force on Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development.  Gorman was part of a national effort to bring more conservative leaders from around the country into the left-leaning National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and ascended to the Number 2 position in the entire national organization. Pamela Gorman was selected by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation (SLLF) and successfully completed the Program for Emerging Political Leaders at the University of Virginia Darden Graduate School of Business Administration.  Gorman was also a representative to the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) and represented America as part of delegations on behalf of ACYPLY and other groups to Asia, Eastern Europe, Western Europe and Africa.  And Pamela Gorman, for years has been active and effective on the issue of illegal immigration and its impact on Arizona.  In fact, long before she cosponsored SB 1070 Gorman was selected as the only legislator from a border state on a major panel at the National Press Club in Washington, DC to help the rest of the nation appreciate the human and financial cost being borne by Arizona as a result of illegal immigration.

This is really the tip of the iceberg of Pamela Gorman’s record while serving in the Arizona House and the Arizona Senate.  As for the two other legislators running for this seat?  You go could through the list above and say “No, no, no, no, no, no, no … to all of those examples of Gorman’s commitment and experience OR ANYTHING OF A SIMILAR NATURE.”  They’re simply more interested in BEing something rather than DOing something to change the direction of this nation.  And, as for the other (non-legislator) candidates running for the seat … two government bureaucrats (one who’s gotten rich on fat government contracts and cashing in on taxpayers and bureaucracy the other both supported the $3 billion tax increase and is the stealth candidate of the national pro-abortion movement).  One very nice businessman with no understanding of how government works.  And, of course, there is the son of Vice President Dan Quayle who has neither business or government experience and is working with his Dad to raise literally millions of dollars to buy a Congressional seat in a District where frankly a few months ago no one even knew he lived. Young Quayle has cashed in on Dad’s rolodex, bought a house, married a pretty young lady and even bought a dog to be the perfect Congressional candidate.  Let’s be real.  If the Republican Party is moving BACKWARD to the Dan Quayle model and example … I think the rumors that the Party is tone deaf to what tea partiers have been screaming pretty much becomes validated.

As a matter of experience, it’s not even close.  Gorman is the conservative choice in AZ-03.
