from Political Pyro :
Kirsten Powers deserves an A+ in stupidity.
Finally, an elitist New York liberal posing as a “journalist” has written a piece, The GOP’s Long, Hot, Racist Summer, that manages to falsely portray the GOP’s stance on every single current issue ranging from illegal immigrants to voter intimidation to interracial marriage and racism.
Let me begin by saying that Ms. Powers, writer for the New York Post and author of this monstrosity, would no doubt consider me a sexist for disagreeing with her. Never mind the validity of my arguments, she is a woman and I am not. Therefore, any liberal reading this should stop immediately and simply brand me a sexist. Those are your marching orders set forth by the current liberal mindset. Had I been a Buddhist, naturally I would be harboring religious intolerance as well.
Powers opens her piece with the sentence “Welcome to the summer of hate” just as I opened with “Kirsten Powers deserves an A+ in stupidity.” Typical “media hack” brainwashing. (Never mind the details — push the agenda.) She writes by presenting the judgment against the defendants first (always Republicans), casually scribbles a few words about the case itself, and conveniently refrains from providing even a shred of evidence to support her argument. Here is an excellent example:
In a rambling Facebook post, the former Alaska governor asked incredulously: “Does anyone seriously believe that Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a racist?”
Why, yes, Sarah. Yes, we do.
Had I written this in a high school English class, no doubt my teacher would have asked: “How is the Facebook post rambling? Give me an example. Why is it incredulous to doubt Dr. Laura is a racist?”
Also, it is interesting to note that by dismissing Dr. Laura as a racist without bothering to provide a substantial argument against her, Ms. Powers not only proves that she is willing to destroy someone’s life with the snap of the fingers (Dr. Laura), but she is also willing to take down someone else’s life for merely defending her (Sarah Palin).
Ms. Powers continues:
This incident is instructive, because it bears the hallmark of many GOP blunders in the area of race. Palin truly cannot understand why anyone would think that Dr. Laura is racist, or why Palin’s defense of her is disgusting. In Palin’s world, apparently this kind of behavior is acceptable, which tells us quite a bit, actually.
In Palin’s world, Dr. Laura is a victim.
(Wink, wink. Read: Sarah Palin is a racist too.)
Again, my English teacher would be pulling her hair out over this paragraph: “What incident? What exactly was said? Who started it? What were the intentions? Which GOP blunders? Tells us quite a bit about what? Why is defending someone disgusting? What is Palin’s world?”
Details do not seem important to Ms. Powers.
Notice I did not write, “Details aren’t important to Ms. Powers”? Unlike most media hacks, I do not pretend to be a scholar on all things Kirsten Powers, I do not wish to destroy her life, and I do not believe my agenda is more important than the truth. I also understand the power of word choice.
Another Powers oversight is explaining the context in which Dr. Laura used the “N-word”. Of course, Dr. Laura did not refer to her black caller as an “N-word”. She was merely explaining that the word is used all the time in black culture and can be heard readily on programs shown on HBO.
She was simply stating a fact.
Dr. Laura’s mistake, of course, was using the word generally to describe what others are saying verbatim. You see, in today’s world of hysterical political correctness, when a white person forgets to add the “quotation marks” while using the “N-word”, then of course the word is ascribed to her.
As is the “racist” brand.
Next on Ms. Powers’ agenda to accuse Republicans of being racist is the New Black Panther voter intimidation scandal:
It’s the same world in which a single incident in a single voting precinct in Philadelphia in 2008 has become a rallying cry among conservatives who see black racism against white people lurking behind every bush.
The obsession is focused on two members of the “New Black Panther Party” who stood outside a majority black voting precinct and got into an argument with some white Republican “poll watchers” whom they called “crackers.” One NBP member was holding a billy club. The “New Black Panther Party,” which has no relation to the original, denounced the two men. Conservatives complain that if they had been Ku Klux Klan members, liberals would be screaming.
Here is a little history lesson: When the KKK showed up at a polling station in the South, black people would have rejoiced if the worst thing that happened to them was name-calling. The KKK came for one reason: to torture and kill blacks, which they did by the thousands.
Arguably, the Jena Six beating was a single incident that became a rallying cry among liberals who see white racism against black people lurking behind every tree.
According to Ms. Powers (who never justifies the actions of the New Black Panther Party members), because the KKK was wrong in the past, we should overlook the New Black Panther Party being wrong today. As a child, an early lesson I learned was that “two wrongs don’t make a right.”
Perhaps Ms. Powers should learn that lesson as well.
It is worth noting that you hardly ever hear Gingrich or any high-profile Republican complaining about racism in America unless they are accusing a black or brown person of doing something racist to a white person.
It is worth noting that you hardly ever hear Sharpton or any high-profile Democrat complaining about racism in America unless they are accusing a white person of doing something racist to a black or brown person.
Ms. Powers then spills her barrel of ink on Michael Savage:
They don’t get upset when talk-radio host Michael Savage, who reaches 8 million listeners a week, says things like this: “The scourge of illegal immigrants… are running rampant across America, killing our police for sport, raping, murdering like a scythe across America. The Statue of Liberty is crying, she’s been raped and disheveled. Raped and disheveled by illegal aliens!”
It really makes you wonder where anyone got the idea that some of the supporters of Arizona’s illegal-immigration law were racist.
Gang violence in America is a fact. Illegal immigration is a fact. I seriously doubt President Obama’s decision to send the National Guard to Arizona’s border is being misconstrued by Democrats as racist.
Finally, Ms. Powers weighs in on the mosque controversy:
It seems obvious that the builders aren’t radicals, not only because the Bush administration worked with them in 2003, but also because if they were, it would be a problem for them to build anywhere, let alone Lower Manhattan. Moving a “terrorist command center” 15 to 20 blocks would hardly make it acceptable.
Let’s be honest: The problem is they are Muslims.
No, Ms. Powers. It isn’t.
I think Charles Krauthammer has explained it best:
When we speak of Ground Zero as hallowed ground, what we mean is that it belongs to those who suffered and died there — and that such ownership obliges us, the living, to preserve the dignity and memory of the place, never allowing it to be forgotten, trivialized or misappropriated.
That’s why Disney’s 1993 proposal to build an American history theme park near Manassas Battlefield was defeated by a broad coalition that feared vulgarization of the Civil War (and that was wiser than me; at the time I obtusely saw little harm in the venture). It’s why the commercial viewing tower built right on the border of Gettysburg was taken down by the Park Service. It’s why, while no one objects to Japanese cultural centers, the idea of putting one up at Pearl Harbor would be offensive.
And why Pope John Paul II ordered the Carmelite nuns to leave the convent they had established at Auschwitz. He was in no way devaluing their heartfelt mission to pray for the souls of the dead. He was teaching them a lesson in respect: This is not your place; it belongs to others. However pure your voice, better to let silence reign.
President Obama has stated that we need to have an open dialogue on race relations in America. So has Eric Holder. So have many Americans. Perhaps some in both political parties are guilty in some ways of being over-protective of specific race groups when they should be protective of everyone equally.
Kirsten Powers deserves an A+ in stupidity for her myopic and inflammatory article. Political warfare is not the way to improve race relations and once again shows the American people that the prevalent “us vs. them” mentality of America’s two-party system, supported by a biased media, is actually the primary obstacle that stands in the way of us ever achieving our National Dream.
