I can perfectly well understand why some politicians want to convince the public that they had nothing whatsoever to do with institutions like Fannie Mae, which played such a key and critical role in bringing about the current financial crisis. But that doesn’t justify making things up in order to make the public believe that one is innocent and as pure as the driven snow regarding this issue.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have justifiably earned their reputations as policy disasters. Those who profited from their political associations with those disasters should not now be allowed to deny those associations. Now that think tanks and the alternative media are on the case regarding this issue, can it be long before the mainstream media starts asking a few questions? Should it be?
