Our Last Defense From Socialism

Since Democrats have a stranglehold on both the legislative and executive branches, there is very little conservatives and even concerned independents in Washington can do to stop the onslaught of legislation being pushed by Obama to support his socialistic agenda. Thus, the onus must fall on the individual states to block the federal government’s continual power grab. States have one weapon that our forefathers placed in the Constitution and it is the 10th Amendment. Our forefathers where extremely smart and not only created checks and balances in the federal government, but also checks and balances between the state governments and the federal government. They visualized the United States being run as what they called a dual federalism society. Dual federalism means the country would be run by both state and federal governments with fairly equal powers. However, over the years the federal government has been gaining power at the expense of the states governments. In fact, the 10th amendment may actually give the states more power than the federal government.

The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Ohio and Arizona are the first states to push legislation to block bills and policies being passed by the Obama administration. Arizona is in the process of passing legislation that will not allow the federal government to dictate health care mandates on their people. Also, Ohio is passing legislation to block the federal government’s mandates for cap and trade on its people.

If Ohio and Arizona are successful in passing this legislation it is almost a certainty that these policies will be challenged by the federal government. I would not be surprised if these cases are finally decided by the Supreme Court. I hope this is the case because I think the states will win since there is nothing in the Constitution that says the federal government has the right to dictate health care and cap and trade on the individual states. I am sure the federal government will claim both cap and trade and health care are essential for national security. I definitely think the states will win by at least a 5-4 margin and there will finally be a means to block the federal government’s socialistic agenda. If this happens, it will be a monumental win for all Americans to block the federal government’s continual grab for power.
