Open letter to Senator McConnell

Senator McConnell,

Now that the election is over, we need to talk. The American people spoke by putting faith in the Republican party to act as a check against out of control government and preserve freedom and individual liberty.

I feel a little embarrassed typing this given the victory a mer 48 hours earlier, but less I remind you the American people want to be heard in Washington, D.C. .  People want government to be on a leash, not dictating to them how to live their lives.  This is what our founding fathers intended.

There were a set of principles and policies which we the people voted for. Those principles and policy ideas mean the world to the voters who sent you and the additional senators back to Washington.

To that end, most people understand the President must sign off on any legislation and that you are still in the minority. There is no doubt that you may lose the battle along the way, but that is not the point. The point is that you need to try your best.

Where I am from, here in Missouri, there is this saying “Show Me.”

That is where we are at, Senator McConnell. Show us.

We want to see that you and the Republican party are listening. We want to see a full throated effort – you know – fire in the belly.

That does not mean compromises wont need to happen or that things will come out perfect. Anyone who lives life understands this.

What it does mean, however, is that effort is just as important as the result. We are watching, waiting and praying that you prove us right. Please.
