In the beginning, the “Ode to Obama” was united and strong. The passion of his supporters, under the artful direction of the conductors in the mainstream media, was fueled to a raging fire, which lifted their chosen savior to such a vaulted place that nothing earthly could touch him. He was “The One”, “The Messiah”. Women fainted, children were taught to sing praises to his name and high priests of the Political, Religious and Entertainment churches rose to fan the flames of faith in “Hope and Change”…
Barack Obama is “a leader that God has blessed us with at this time.”– Nancy Pelosi
“When the Messiah speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking.” – Louis Farrakhan
Obama has the “gift of wisdom,” and a “tongue dipped in unvarnished truth.” – Oprah
In a post of long ago, I shared my own thoughts regarding what I saw as the Political Palm Sunday of Barack Obama… and I hinted of the danger and “The Trouble in Being a Messiah…”
“And they brought the colt to Jesus and cast their garments on him, and He sat upon him. And many spread their garments upon the way, and others cut down branches off the trees and strewed them upon the way. And those who went before, and those who followed, cried, saying, “Hosanna! Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord!” – Mark 11:7-9
… and we all know what happened three days later.
Well, it has been a year and, while the choir is still singing, there is a noteable decline in their volume. There is less passion in the fewer voices and there are increasing numbers of sour notes as the media conductors grow weary and less confident… angry in the waving of their batons. Now, don’t get me wrong. I am not so naive to believe that the media’s discontent is altruistic by any means. The new lean to Judas from faithful deciple is not born of the cries of the masses who are suffering beneath the rule of The One. It is not a revolt against his arrogance as he tells us to tighten our belts and stop going to Vegas while he eats Kobe Beef and jets off to play golf in Hawaii. It comes not from the broken promisses to his American subjects or the rest of the wretched world that “generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal… This was the moment — this was the time — when we came together to remake this great nation.” Arrogance was something they had in common with The One and it was from the milk of their own, they fed his. No, the tide of adoration for The One has turned for one reason and one reason only… The One’s arrogance has grown so fat it no longer leaves room for them. Where Barack once sought them out and embraced them, he now avoids them and refuses to grant them pressence.
For his first year, Barack Obama holds 4th place for the number of solo press conferences. He is tied with George Bush in that 63% have been held in tandum with leaders from other countries and Obama takes home the proverbial Gold for holding court with members of the press outside of the United States.
The fires are lit… the cauldron is starting to boil…
For a long time, the gods of the mainstream media considered themselves to be not on the same but rather a higher level than those in politics, entertainment and certainly above the ignorant and stupid living in the private sector… for they are the Great Annointers. It is they who have the power to lift up or crush the aspirations of any mortal by expressing disapproval or favor in the weilding of their verbal swords… and the fastest way to earn their scorn is through what they see as the great blasphemy of failing to recognize their exhaulted status. It is THAT sin, the crossing of THAT line, through which The One will surely bring about his Good Friday.
And so, from the Associated Press, it has begun:
For all of its talk about transparency, the White House shut out the press Thursday when President Barack Obama met with the Dalai Lama.
Traditionally, when a high-profile foreign dignitary meets with the president, photographers and reporters are granted opportunity before the private Oval Office chat to ask questions and take pictures. Instead, for his meeting with the Dali Lama, a meeting which China (the holders of the majority of our debt) adamantly opposed, Obama chose to meet privately in the Map Room on the ground floor of the White House… and the press was not allowed inside. To further the insult, Press secretary Robert Gibbs stepped out to toss them a few bones… issuing a brief statement after the event and (like handing a kid a quarter for the gum-ball machine) they have been given the link to a website where they could go to get the single in-house photo approved for them to have of the two leaders.
Yes, for the most part, past presidents have also kept their encounters with the Dalai Lama private. But Kelly McBride, leader of the Poynter Institute’s ethics group, said it’s hard for the Obama administration to balance pledges of transparency with their effort to control media coverage.
Well, the Associated Press has declined to distribute the token, White House photo. The AP’s policy bars distribution of “handout photos” when they feel snubbed.
“Government-controlled coverage is not acceptable in societies that promote freedom,” said Kathleen Carroll, executive editor of the AP. “And that is why we do not distribute government handouts of events that we believe should be open to the press and therefore the public at large.”
So, today, on Drudge, the AP chose to release their own photo of the Dali Lama… the one they snapped as the Tibetan spiritual leader was being escorted out the back door of the White House Palm Room… walking across the wet, snow-slushed porch in his robes and sandals… past the stacks of garbage bags… What the photo does not show were the gifts, which The One, in his consistently familiar gift giving finesse, bestowed upon the man who lives by a vow of self-imposed poverty… cuff-links and a presidential golf ball…
Indeed… As it was known all too well by the TRUE Messiah, the adoration of worshipers can be a fickle thing. One day they give you a parade and see you as their savior who has come to heal our broken souls and lift from us the burdens of filling our gas tanks and paying our mortgages… and yes, to heal the very earth itself… Unfortunately, “The Trouble with being a Messiah is….” when you do not live up to their expectations, they turn on you, yank you from your donkey and start sizing you for a cross…
