Democrats seem to think that their failure to pass HillaryCare was the catalyst for the Gingrich Revolution, which brought about their defeat in 1994. In the wake of a major drubbing, with the landslide victory of Scott Brown in the bluest state in the country, they are in a panic that the same thing will happen again this November. They are correct, but not for the reasons they think.
“I don’t think it was about health care, it was because change didn’t happen fast enough — that’s the frustration,” said Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.), one of the group’s leaders. “I believe that if we had pursued the populist, progressive agenda, such as a public option, we could have energized our base.”
Woolsey, who co-chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus (a group of more than 80 Democrats in the House and Senate) is all for the progressive agenda, so much so that she even seems to scare democratic leaders who continuously pass her over for prominent committee assignments and other leadership positions within the party. Maybe it’s because she proposed revoking the federal charter for the Boy Scouts because the group excludes gays. Maybe it was because she bucked Pelosi, pushing to have troops withdrawn from Iraq by the end of 2007 rather than being satisfied with the August 2008 time-line Pelosi wanted. Or maybe it was because Woolsey was arrested while participating in a protest against the violence in Darfur. Currently, Ms. Woolsey is a very vocal advocate in passing ObamaCare with a “robust public option” and has (along with her progressive caucus) vowed not to vote for a bill that does not give her what she (and her base) wants.
Lynn Woolsey (and her progressive coven) is either A) in extreme denial of what the majority of Americans want, or B) Is determined to please her minority base and use her position to shove their “progressive agenda” down the throats of the greater American population who do not want it no matter how many fellow democrats she sacrifices in her determination to have it her way. I think it’s the latter. But what do I know? I’m just a Racist/Gun Clutchin’/Bible Thumpin’/Teabagger.
Lynn truly doesn’t get it. Has the town halls and the march on Washington on 9-12 taught her nothing? After the sound defeat of Martha Coakley by a little known republican named Scott Brown in the bluest state in the country… she attributes that loss, not to the fact that all polls indicate that the overwhelming majority of American’s do not want the government to control healthcare but to the idea that they are not taking control “fast enough”. They are not “liberal enough”. Even way down here in Tampa, Florida, the frustrated liberal… (ahem), “journalists”are banging their heads against the wall insisting that the repeated rejections of progressive candidates and the mounting revolt against their progressive agenda is because those who are attempting to “fundamentally change” the principles on which our nation was formed is because democrats are not… “liberal enough”.
According to a Research 2000 poll commissioned by Democracy for America, MoveOn, and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, 500 Obama voters who supported Republican Scott Brown were asked, “Generally speaking do you think Barack Obama and Democrats in Washington, DC are delivering enough on the change Obama promised to bring to America during the campaign?”
How does Democracy for America, MoveOn, and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee interpret these poll results? Is it because respondents fell that Barack Obama has gone back on nearly every promise he made during the campaign to become president? (No Earmarks in the Budget or any bills, No Lobbyist in the White House, Close GITMO within a year, Healthcarenegotiations on C-Span, Fiscal Responsibility, Balanced Budged and yada, yada, yada…) No. Is it because since Barack Obama came to office we have experienced two successful and one attempted act of terrorism while banning the use of words like, “terrorist” or “war on terror”?…. No. Is it because Obama gives American rights to terrorists while threatening to imprison Americans for not purchasing healthcare insurance?.. No. The democrats believe they are skidding on their backsides down a gravel political slope because they aren’t “liberal enough“…
Okay…. Picture this… A bus (the progressive agenda), speeding toward a cliff (financial death of America and loss of all personal freedoms)… and while the passengers (the majority of Americans) scream and clutch seat backs in white knuckled terror, someone (a delusional progressive) shouts to the driver (Obama)… “Faster, they want to go FASTER!”
(In the above scenario, the progressives will insist that all deaths were caused by those who did not remove No. 2 pencils from their pockets before impact as instructed.)
