Barack Obama is “a leader that God has blessed us with at this time.”– Nancy Pelosi
“When the Messiah speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking.” – Louis Farrakhan
Obama has the “gift of wisdom,” and a “tongue dipped in unvarnished truth.” – Oprah
With all of these comparisons of Barack Obama to “The Messiah” something occured to me almost immediately (as I observed the rising tide of Obama Euphoria), that few others (if any) seem to be thinking about…
“And they brought the colt to Jesus and cast their garments on him, and He sat upon him. And many spread their garments upon the way, and others cut down branches off the trees and strewed them upon the way. And those who went before, and those who followed, cried, saying, “Hosanna! Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord!” – Mark 11:7-9
In Jewish history the palm branch was once viewed as a symbol of triumph and of victory. Because of this, the scene of the crowd greeting Jesus by waving palm fronds and carpeting his path with them as he entered Jerusalem has been remembered and celebrated by Christians by what is known as “Palm Sunday”.
Of course, we all know what happened three days later.
The celebration (known today as Palm Sunday)was inspired back then by the joyous anticipation of the Jews in the belief that they were finally receiving deliverance from their many oppressions and the freedoms, which they had so long been praying for were wrapped and ready for delivery. They believed that the political freedom (Hope and Change) they had been so desperate for was being bestowed upon them and that their every worry was now gone… and life would be heaven on earth…
I see a lot of that “faith” in the half-glazed, tear-filled eyes of Obama’s supporters. I hear it the near panicked elevation of the “faith” in their voices… They truly believe that Barack is their salvation. Through him, their every prayer WILL be answered…
“I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car, I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage, you know, if I help him, he’s gonna help me.” – Peggy Joseph
Currently, Obama seems to be enjoying his Political Palm Sunday. His followers are full of joy. They believe!Barack will end the war and eliminate nuclear weapons worldwide and every heart of every man, woman and child from every nation will love America again…
Barack himself believes in his own power. Through him, our prayers will be answered and we will witness miracles of Biblical proportions:
“Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth. This was the moment—this was the time—when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves and our highest ideals.”
I am already hearing the grumblings …of disappointment amongst his flock that those he is choosing to help him institute the Changes he promised are nothing more than the same old faces whom they believe created the problems in the first place.
Yes, Obama’s loyal followers are not happy… and he hasn’t even been sworn into office yet.
Yeah… That’s the thing about being a Messiah. One day, your fans are waving palm fronds and singing your name in the streets.Three days later, one of your closest confidants denies he ever knew you, another betrays you… and the masses who loved you are now screaming for your crucifiction.
