ObamaCare Would Target Conservatives

The Democrats are on the defensive about health care. The big issue is whether Obama Care really means socialized medicine. President Obama says it does not, yet Obama himself has said in speeches that he eventually wants to move away from employer-provided private health insurance and to a 100% government-run plan.

Here are the quotes:

March of 2007 at the Service Employees International Union health care forum: “My commitment is to make sure that we’ve got universal health care for all Americans by the end of my first term as president.  I would hope that we can set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to access a federal system or a state pool of some sort, but I don’t think we’re going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately.  There’s going to be potentially some transition process.  I can envision a decade out or 15 years out or 20 years out.”

A 2003 address to the AFL-CIO:  “I happen to be a proponent of single-payer, universal health care plan… That’s what I’d like to see.

So if Obama is singing a different tune now, that is because Obama will say anything to get his ideas passed. Ultimately we know he wants government health care for all.

And if we allow the government to run health care – it will happen slowly if the first step is taken – that means health care will be rationed based on politics alone. And this is precisely what the Founding Fathers warned against.

Sarah Palin even has warned that the government will set up “death panels” and that is not far off the mark. Because government functionaries indeed would make life and death decisions. Call them what you will. Such decisions already are made every day right now by families, insurance companies, hospitals, and the government itself.

Now look at the US Constitution. The 2nd Amendments says that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Yet there are thousands upon thousand of laws in America limiting gun ownership.

Nowhere in the Constitution, however, does it say one word about abortion. Yet the Supreme Court essentially codified unlimited access to abortion in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. And this is how socialism has warped our Constitution and our economy to its own ends. And the ultimate prize is the control over life and death, first for the unborn, and then for everyone else.

So liberals will make life-and-death decisions for the elderly and for the disabled and handicapped part of their plan. After all, euthanasia has incrementally become the law of the land for the unborn fetus, while 50 years ago we never would have thought that would be possible. Abortion providers indeed are “death panels”.

If Obama has his way, euthanasia for the elderly will happen gradually. And then the elderly will be dispatched as casually as the unborn are today. And it will not be protested.

To understand it, you have to see how such a system already works in order to realize how it would affect different people. Because if Obama gets the national plan that he discussed in 2003 and 2007,  the health-care bureaucracy will be 95% left-wing Democrats – just like much of the government bureaucracy – and they will consider your political persuasion before deciding how or even whether to treat you. Don’t think this is not going to happen.

For instance, if you are a registered Democrat, or gave money to the Democrat party or to enviro groups throughout your life, or are a homosexual who has worked for the Democrat cause all your life, you will get the best treatment.

Think about any leftist entity – a labor union, public school, university faculty, government job, the arts. You know that conservatives are weeded out and shut out. Our newest Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor even ruled in Ricci v. DeStefano that capable white firefighters in Connecticut can be legally discriminated against in favor of less-capable blacks.

The people in power can figure out who you are and what you think. They can trace you through your voter registration, through your public activities, through your political contributions, through your letters to the editor.

Now think about health care and remember that powerful liberals would keep the best private insurance plans and private doctors for themselves, the premium plans that they get as unionized civil servants, public school teachers, Democrat politicians, university professors, or as wealthy individuals. Then they would relegate most Americans to a terrible state-run system just as they often send their own children to private or parochial schools but fully support a public education system for “the rest of us”.

Even if there are private plans for anyone who wants them, you would be taxed so heavily for the public plan that most people will not be able to afford private insurance. And then your fate would be decided by the government

Now imagine that  a known conservative is 65 years old and has cancer and these national health care bureaucrats are deciding what medical treatments to give him/her. Since he/she is known as a conservative, his/her fate would be sealed. The government would withhold treatment with every tool imaginable and write it up as just another case. Nobody could argue. After all, look at how affirmative action is applied selectively and people are denied jobs on account of their skin color.

Now imagine some Democrat has the same cancer. Obviously the liberals who run national health care are going to give him everything he wants and needs.

Obama really tripped over himself big time when he was defending his public plan in New Hampshire. In claiming that private insurers would not be put out of business by a government plan, he said that FedEx and UPS are doing fine in competition with the taxpayer-supported post office, and that in fact “It’s the post office that’s always having problems.”

Doesn’t that in itself explain why we should fight with all of our strength against a government-run health plan?

Conservatives have a workable proposal for health care that Democrats oppose: Restrain the trial lawyers, restrain the health-care unions, make insurance available across state lines and reduce government mandates so that competition drives prices down. This is just a start. But a good one.
