There is a technique that magicians use called ‘misdirection’ in which the magician diverts your attention with one hand and then does the trick with the other.
Liberals use misdirection every day as their primary tactic in pushing through their agendas. For instance, they will divert us with stories about the alleged horrors of nuclear power – which are virtually nonexistent – while trying to convince us to invest in windmills – which do not work at all.
Recently a black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct by the police in Cambridge, Massachusetts where the university is located. The police had been summoned to Gates’ home in a nice neighborhood when the caller saw two black men trying to break in the door. In fact one of the men was Gates himself, and the door apparently had become stuck and he needed to force it in. But the caller saw only suspicious activity.
In case you do not know how police operate, they would arrive on such a scene assuming only what they had been told, that there was a break-in in progress. When the caucasian policeman Sgt. James Crowley was not satisfied that Gates was the homeowner – remember that the police assume nothing when responding to such a situation because they know how criminals operate – Gates became belligerent and began accusing the police of racism. Eventually Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct and then released when the truth was discovered.
President Obama then injected himself into the situation, making some racially-charged comments and saying that the police had acted “stupidly”. Yet Obama himself admitted that he did not know all the facts of the story, and neither do we several days after the incident.
So how could he charge the police with acting “stupidly”? Is this not injecting his biased opinion into a case, prejudging it? Is this not what the word “prejudice” means?
Obama even had to backtrack on his comments and ended up looking weak, adding to the perception that he is not quite prepared to be president.
And by the way, most of the civil-servant cops in Cambridge voted for Obama in the first place. Now he has angered many of them, as he has angered many cops across the nation, many of whom voted for him. Public approval of Obama’s comments was low.
This is the same Barack Obama who once praised his white grandmother saying “Whatever strength and discipline I have comes from her” while writing the following about white people in his book Dreams from My Father:
“I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.”
Or: “It was my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa, that I’d package all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, Dubois and Mandela.”
Or: “To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students, the foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.”
Or: “I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.”
Or: “That hate hadn’t gone away,” he wrote, blaming “white people — some cruel, some ignorant, sometimes a single face, sometimes just a faceless image of a system claiming power over our lives.”
So obviously Obama has a confused racial agenda that is controlled by his leftist influences.
The whole Gates affair has been blown into yet another racial conflagration, with most black leaders and intellectuals charging that America still is a racist society. This is interesting coming on the heels of the revelation that Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor as a lower-court judge allowed the city of New Haven, Connecticut to throw out good test results for white firefighters simply because no blacks had passed.
In other words, society indeed often is biased.
Biased against white people under law, that is. As official policy.
Gates was all over television in full war cry over his arrest. And he immediately was pushing every racial hot button that he could find. And this is the way that most of black America reacts to every incident of this type because black America is controlled lock, stock and barrel by the Democrat party and the angry left. Nothing will get in their way. Gates showed no magnanimity in saying that this was simply a misunderstanding. He knew that he had a racial tiger by the tail and like a good leftist, he was going to exploit it for every inch he could get out of it.
Obama blundered by getting involved because he was trying to get support for his government health-care takeover and instead got bogged down in questions about his comment on the Gates case. But this is the real Obama. The first “post-racial” president has been exposed as just another old-fashioned agitator like Jackson and Sharpton, still looking for revenge against a society that just elevated him to the presidency, just as Gates is still angry even though he has one of the most prestigious jobs in America.
So let’s consider several other issues that we might look at if we were not being ‘misdirected’ by the magicians of the Democrat party into this incident:
*When Gates said recently on CNN that arrests like his show the “vulnerability” of black men, perhaps he could have mentioned some of those other “vulnerabilities” like crime and homicide rates in black America where roughly 10,000 blacks are murdered every year, overwhelmingly by other blacks. And these neighborhoods are controlled lock, stock and barrel by Gates and his Democrat friends.
*Perhaps Gates could have mentioned the “vulnerability” of blacks to abhorrent public schools that are failing to educate millions of blacks every year. All of these schools all controlled without challenge by the Democrat party and its teacher-union friends. But put a Harvard prof in cuffs… oh, boy, that shows vulnerability.
*Perhaps Gates could protest the ultra-rich left-wing moguls of hip-hop and gangsta-rap music who get filthy wealthy promoting violence in black communities. Violence… what violence? Violence is perpetrated by white cops, isn’t it?
*Perhaps Gated could have mentioned some crime stats from the US Department of Justice that show the “vulnerability” of black men:
DOJ says: In 2005, offending (homicide) rates for blacks were more than 7 times higher than the rates for whites.
DOJ says: In 2005, homicide victimization rates for blacks were 6 times higher than the rates for whites.
DOJ study: Young males, particularly young black males, are disproportionately involved in homicide compared to their share of the population. The Homicide Offending Rates per 100,000 Population by Race from the DOJ study, by year, are 1976: 4.9% white, 46.6% black, 4.6% other. 1988: 4.9% white, 41.2% black, 4.5% other. 2000: white 3.5%, black 25.6%, other 3.3%. 2005: 3.5% white, 26.5% black and 2.8% other.
DOJ study says: Homicide Offenders by Race. 1976, White, 9,157, Black, 10,969, other 226. 1988, white 10,190, black 12,257, other 385. 2000, white 8,011, black 9,240, other, 490. 2005: white 8,350, black 10,285, other 492. (Note: There are 5.5 times as many whites as blacks in America, yet the black homicide numbers are actually bigger.)
There are two kinds of people in the world – those who are rational and reasonable and level-headed, and those who are irrational and who use anger, emotion and manipulation to attain their goals. The latter are liberals. And black America today is under almost total liberal control, with leaders like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton playing up every racial incident for personal and political gain. And now Gates. Have you ever seen Jackson showing up to give a heart-warming speech at a black high-school graduation, congratulating the students on their achievements?
No. Because he is part of a negative, angry culture that uses incidents like the Gates case to misdirect us from the bigger reality of crime, violence and prejudice in America in order to further its own agenda. And that is the biggest magic trick of all.
