Understanding Obama-Speak

Here are excerpts from Obama’s speech with comments and questions about what he really meant:

Obama said: “Our children will compete for jobs in a global economy that too many of our schools do not prepare them for.” Comment: Those schools are run lock, stock and barrel by Obama’s teacher-union friends from whom he will demand zero real reform.

Obama said: “As soon as I took office, I asked this Congress to send me a recovery plan by President’s Day that would put people back to work and put money in their pockets. Not because I believe in bigger government — I don’t. Not because I’m not mindful of the massive debt we’ve inherited — I am.” Comment: The money in people’s pockets is equal to $8 a week. And the deficit he inherited he immediately doubled on entering office with his stimulus plan.

Obama said: “Over the next two years, this plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs. More than 90 percent of these jobs will be in the private sector — jobs rebuilding our roads and bridges.” Comment: Under law, the unions are going to get all the rebuilding jobs at exorbitant union wages, cutting substantially the amount of work that could be accomplished otherwise by non-union workers. Many bridges and roads will unnecessarily go unrepaired.

Obama said: “Because of this plan, families who are struggling to pay tuition costs will receive a $2,500 tax credit for all four years of college.” Comment: It is a proven fact that the Obama-friendly colleges have been raising tuitions at 3 times the rate of inflation over the last 30 years. By offering tax credits, Obama is shifting those tuitions to the taxpayer rather than asking the colleges to cut their costs. This is a huge gift to the left-wing universities.

Obama said: “With so much debt and so little confidence, these banks are now fearful of lending out any more money to households, to businesses, or to each other. When there is no lending, families can’t afford to buy homes or cars. So businesses are forced to make layoffs. Our economy suffers even more, and credit dries up even further.” Comment: Obama himself said in his campaign that he was going to raise taxes on small businesses. Taxes are the main reason that small businesses are under stress.

Obama said: “Second, we have launched a housing plan that will help responsible families facing the threat of foreclosure lower their monthly payments and re-finance their mortgages. It’s a plan that won’t help speculators or that neighbor down the street who bought a house he could never hope to afford.” Comment: Like the millions of people who got NINJA loans when Democrat laws forced banks to make those loans. NINJA means that the person has No Income and No Job, but was given a loan anyway.

Obama said: “I have appointed a proven and aggressive Inspector General to ferret out any and all cases of waste and fraud. And we have created a new web site called recovery.gov so that every American can find out how and where their money is being spent.” Comment: Yeah, right. They have been so successful at fighting corruption in Chicago, where Obama comes from.

Obama said: “It is time to put in place tough, new common-sense rules of the road so that our financial market rewards drive and innovation, and punishes shortcuts and abuse.” Comment: Obama himself was one of the US senators who filibustered new regulations on Fannie Mae, which collapsed in 2008 after Bush and McCain and other Republicans warned about it for years.

Obama said: “I intend to hold these banks fully accountable for the assistance they receive, and this time, they will have to clearly demonstrate how taxpayer dollars result in more lending for the American taxpayer. This time, CEOs won’t be able to use taxpayer money to pad their paychecks or buy fancy drapes or disappear on a private jet.” Comment: The biggest banking collapse of all, Citigroup, was the result of the policies instituted over the last 10 years by one of the most visible Democrats of the last 25 years, Robert Rubin, who was Bill Clinton’s Treasury secretary.

Obama said: “In each case, government didn’t supplant private enterprise; it catalyzed private enterprise. It created the conditions for thousands of entrepreneurs and new businesses to adapt and to thrive.” Comment: It is an established fact that every single technology that powers America and the world today was in fact incubated by the American government – in the American military.

Obama said: “But to truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy. So I ask this Congress to send me legislation that places a market-based cap on carbon pollution and drives the production of more renewable energy in America.” Comment: This is the most dangerous statement in this speech. When Obama says that the government is going to place a “cap on carbon pollution”, he means that government is going to make oil and coal energy more expensive by restricting it through taxation. This is the only way that more expensive renewable energy will succeed in the market. This will wreck our economy.

Obama said: “For that same reason, we must also address the crushing cost of health care. This is a cost that now causes a bankruptcy in America every thirty seconds. By the end of the year, it could cause 1.5 million Americans to lose their homes. In the last eight years, premiums have grown four times faster than wages.” Comment: In the 1990s, health care costs were contained dramatically through “managed care” programs that restricted the unlimited access to health care that is driving costs through the roof. Democrats screamed loudest about managed care and had it scrapped.

Obama said: “Right now, three-quarters of the fastest-growing occupations require more than a high school diploma. And yet, just over half of our citizens have that level of education. We have one of the highest high school dropout rates of any industrialized nation. And half of the students who begin college never finish.” Comment: It is Obama’s radical teacher-union friends who have ruined a once-great public education system. The dropout rate is driven largely by urban blacks whose schools are a disaster, and whose teacher unions are the most radical and the strongest.

Obama said: “We will root out the waste, fraud, and abuse in our Medicare program that doesn’t make our seniors any healthier, and we will restore a sense of fairness and balance to our tax code by finally ending the tax breaks for corporations that ship our jobs overseas.” Comment: Many corporations cannot survive in America anymore with the ruthless taxation, regulation and environmental extremism coming from the Democrat party.

Obama said: “And with our friends and allies, we will forge a new and comprehensive strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan to defeat al Qaeda and combat extremism. Because I will not allow terrorists to plot against the American people from safe havens half a world away.” Comment: And what about the terrorist in Obama’s own Chicago neighborhood, William Ayers?
