Wishing Michael Steele Success at RNC

Michael Steele has been elected chairman of the Republican National Committee. He is black, and the former lieutenant governor of Maryland. He ran for the US Senate in 2006 and was defeated by a white male liberal Democrat. Steele got few black votes because Democrats have convinced black voters never to vote Republican, even when the Republican candidate is one of their own.

The Republican party was founded as the anti-slavery party in 1854. Only 9 years later, Republican Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. From that time well into the 20th century, Republicans fought for civil rights and helped to found the black colleges. All the major figures in the early civil rights movements were Republicans.

But in the last 50 years, the Democrats have given black America something that many have considered more important than freedom or rights. They have given them vast quantities of taxpayer money. And that is the crux of the problem for the Republican party.

The GOP stands for self-reliance. But blacks have become a race with far too many dependents, thanks to the ‘generosity’ of the Democrats, which really is vote-buying, pure and simple… with Other People’s Money.

Something more sinister has happened as well. While blacks had three basic institutions to sustain them after their emancipation from slavery – their businesses, their families and their churches – the Democrat party has offered them cash in exchange for adopting the entire liberal agenda which includes the abandonment of their businesses, their families and their churches.

Many blacks have opted out big time in favor of the cash. That is why 75% of all black children are born out of wedlock. Why black churches are missing the majority. And why the inner cities of America have no self-sustaining enterprise to support the people.

In the meantime, the Democrat party has done everything in its power to further weaken black America. Entertainment industry liberals get rich foisting violent hip-hop and rap music and mindless entertainment on black communities. Public schools, run by Democrat teacher unions, have abandoned black children by the millions. Single black mothers, who statistically have higher rates of poverty, alcoholism, drug addiction and failure, are encouraged by endless pots of welfare payments, never learning the value of independence and self-reliance. Their children become trapped too.

This is intentional. The Democrat party has been acting against the family, private business and Christianity all over America. They have been most successful in black America, turning many into helpless wards of the state.

So what should the Republican party do? Remind blacks about the Emancipation? Talk about the good old days of civil rights? And who will listen when there’s a cash machine around the corner in the form of government handouts? Breaking addictions is hard, particularly when that addiction has you by the throat… and the wallet.

Blacks today have grown up with the growling of Jesse Jackson as the background noise of their lives, not the poetry of Martin Luther King who talked about the day when blacks would be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.

Jackson is no King, and he has taken black America in the other direction, toward anger and identity politics, where blackness is all. That is how he leads them, showing up every time blacks are angry to lead the protest but never at a high school graduation to gently laud success. Today, you can get a thousand blacks to protest one act of police brutality, but you cannot get one black to protest a thousand acts of black-on-black brutality.

The content of one’s character is just a tertiary concern to the critical issue of race. Achievement in black America today is measured mostly by one’s allegiance to the liberal black elite which no longer is based in poetry but in angry hip-hop rhymes and racial confrontation.

Typically, however, in many liberal institutions like the US Senate, white Democrats have kept blacks out of power. There only have been four black senators in the 20th century and beyond, and one was a Republican. White Democrats want proportional representation in hiring everywhere else, but not when their own power is at stake.

The Republicans did not select Michael Steele because he is black. They chose him because he is a good spokesman for the ideals of the Republican party. He is well-spoken, well-mannered, erudite, smart and successful. Republicans find him an appealing character. He is not spitting mad like “Reverend” Jesse Jackson or ”Reverend” Al Sharpton, neither of whom is a real reverend. Steele does not play the race card like the Democrats do every day in order to keep blacks agitated. Steele even once studied to be a priest before entering politics. He would have been a real “reverend”.

Steele will reach out to blacks, and some Republicans are secretly hoping that his election will change the demographic of voting. But if Republicans think he is going to shift large numbers of black voters to the GOP, they will probably be disappointed. Blacks have sold themselves out to the Democrat party, and in many ways have destroyed themselves in the process.  Just look at the prison population today. Or the murder rate.

Martin Luther King was a Republican early on in his career as were most blacks of the 1940s and 1950s and before. The American South was Democrat a whole century after the Civil War because Southerners hated the Northern Republicans who had freed the slaves. Today, those roles are reversed. Most blacks now hate Republicans and love Obama. And there is a great deal of harassment and intimidation involved. Imagine putting up a Bush campaign sign in a black neighborhood. The sign would be destroyed and the homeowner would be ostracized and harassed. That is how Democrats rule everywhere… in the media, in the universities, in the arts.

All Republicans wish Michael Steele the best. He is a good man. They hope that he can begin to reach out to everyone including blacks with some common sense about economic growth, law and order, school vouchers, family values and all the other issues on which more blacks privately agree with Republican philosophy than will admit it publicly. Conservative black elected officials have tried outreach before, however, and it has not worked very well.

But who knows? Perhaps when Obama’s bloated economic plan fails more Americans will understand the real message of growth and achievement in the conservative philosophy. After all, for millions of Americans both black and white, there will be nothing better to believe in.
