Director Joe Johnston has taken an American icon and turned him “politically correct” for today’s Obama-loving Hollywood elite. He has taken a symbol of America as a force of freedom and justice in a time of great evil and turned him into a PR prop to sell war bonds.
“The costume is a flag, but the way we’re getting around that is we have Steve Rogers forced into the USO circuit,” Johnston said. “After he’s made into this super-soldier, they decide they can’t send him into combat and risk him getting killed. He’s the only one and they can’t make more. So they say, ‘You’re going to be in this USO show’ and they give him a flag suit. He can’t wait to get out of it.”
He added that “When he does go AWOL, he covers up the suit but then, after a few things happen, he realizes that this uniform allows him to lead. By then, he’s become a star in the public mind and a symbol. The guys get behind him because he embodies something special.”
So, the government spends millions on asuper-soldier only to let him entertain the troops and sell war bonds as symbol. Then, he goes AWOL (an offense punishable by death in wartime) and then suddenly realizes his purpose. My God, Jack Kirby must doing cartwheels in the ground at this. Captain America knew his purpose from the first moment. Why do you think he volunteered for the procedure to become a super soldier? This is re-writing the story of an American legend to fit the needs of a PC society not wanting America to be leading the charge against evil in the world. Oh no, that would be too aggressive, like George Bush. We have to be one with the world, like Obama.
Do me a favor Hollywood, if this is the way you’re going to make a movie about Captain America, don’t make it because it will fail. The fans know the story and changing it is only going to piss us off.
