Clown-In-Chief: Obama Needs To 'Feel Strongly Enough...To Move Forward' On Syria

President Obama did a media offensive last night on Syria by granting interviews with ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, NBC and PBS.  During the president’s interview with NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie, he showed once again that his foreign policy is ambiguous, amorphous, and lacks teeth.  He also added that the First Lady doesn’t want to go to war with Syria either  Yet, after establishing a red line on Syria, the president seemed to backtrack with Guthrie saying that after his address tonight – and the Congressional vote, he “will evaluate after that whether or not we feel strongly enough about this that we are willing to move forward.”  And people wonder why the world can’t take us seriously abroad.  We have a clown in the Oval Office.

SAVANNAH GUTHRIE, NBC NEWS: Would you act without Congress [on Syria]? The answer could be yes, no, or I haven’t decided.

PRESIDENT OBAMA:  I think it’s fair to say that I haven’t decided. I am taking this vote in Congress and what the American people are saying very seriously — because if you ask somebody, you know, I read polls like everybody else. If you ask somebody, if you ask Michelle [Obama] do we want to be involved in another war? The answer is no. So, I recognize how important that debate is. It is my belief that for me, the president, to act without consensus in a situation where there is not a direct imminent threat to the homeland or interests around the world that that’s not the kind of precedent that I want to set. We are going to spend this week talking to members of Congress, answering their questions. I’m going to speak to the American people tomorrow night directly. I will evaluate after that whether or not we feel strongly enough about this that we are willing to move forward.

I’m not for bombing Syria, but it’s about time that our commander-in-chief begins to formulate some coherent doctrine in this region of the world.  Let’s hope this Syrian deal to hand over control of its chemical weapons to the so-called international community gives him the time to do so.
