With Live Action pushing hard on the findings of their six-month investigation into America’s late-term abortion industry, the organization decided to hold a rally yesterday in front of the office of Dr. Cesare Santangelo, the abortionist featured in their D.C. investigation, at George Washington University.
Besides Live Action President Lila Rose, the list of speakers included:
- Melissa Ohden, survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion who works to raise awareness of the intergenerational impact of abortion on women, men, families, and communities.
- Marjorie Dannenfelser, President and Chairman of the Board of the Susan B. Anthony List, an American political organization that seeks to advance pro-life women in politics.
- Jill Stanek, prominent pro-life blogger.
- Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life.
- Charmine Yoest, President and CEO of Americans United for Life
- David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life
During the rally, prominent pro-life activist Jill Stanek discussed Obama’s connection to late-term abortions – and born-alive babies – detailing how the president was against Born Alive legislation when he was in the Illinois State Senate. Back in August of 2012, Katie Pavlich at Townhall reported that then-State Senator Obama described born-alive infants, as a “fetus outside of the womb.”
That if that fetus, or child, however you want to describe it, is now outside of the mother’s womb and the doctor continues to think that it’s non viable but there’s lets say movement or some indidcation that they’re not just coming out limp and dead that in fact they would then have to call in a second physician to monitor and check off and make sure that this is not a live child that could be saved?”
Stanek also detailed a gut-wrenching story when she worked at an abortion clinic in Illinois, and cared for a live baby after a failed attempt for forty-five minutes until it died. She crossed the baby’s arms when it passed away, and gave it the dignity it deserved when any life expires.
Melissa Ohden detailed her equally emotional story about how her nineteen-year-old birth mother tried to abort her through a saline solution, but survived. She said that she could’ve been like one of Kermit Gosnell’s trophies, but is now a healthy individual living life. Ohden survived due to intensive medical care, which abortionists, like Dr. Santangelo, are caught on tape saying they would deny if a child had survived an abortion attempt in their clinic. As a result, she considers herself a “voice for the voiceless.”
All spoke out against the injustices of abortion, especially in the wake of the trial of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who murdered numerous babies and one woman. He also faces 250 other charges of criminal activity. In fact, Gosnell has brought back the macabre issue of post-birth abortion (aka infanticide), especially when Planned Parenthood is on record endorsing it. Given the evidence clearly displayed on tape during Live Action’s D.C. investigation, the speakers called on the authorities within our legal system to investigate – and possibly prosecute– Dr. Sanatangelo for violating the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act.
Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life, spoke directly to this point:
The videos that have come out are personal to me. In 2008, when I was pregnant with my first son, I had a nurse at a federally-funded New Jersey Planned Parenthood tell me that my son could be aborted at 22 weeks by simply birthing him and letting him die. She told me on tape that “It does happen, where it’s still alive…but it wouldn’t be able to survive on its own, so eventually the baby does die.”
This is illegal. Birthing babies and refusing to give them medical attention that they would receive at the hospital just down the street – it’s barbaric. How can we allow this to happen in our civilized nation?
[I] call on the Washington, D.C. Attorney General, Irvin Nathan, the U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Ronald Machen, the D.C. Department of Health, and City Council to see to it that Dr. Santangelo and his Washington Surgi-Clinic’s licenses are revoked and are duly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
After the rally, Rose said these developments should force us to reevaluate the justifications for abortion, especially the misconception that abortion “empowers” women. “Women are not better off because of abortion in America, ” said Rose, who also noted how Ireland is virtually abortion-free – and has one of the lowest maternal death rates in the world. Lila also noted that “we don’t need to kill in order to empowered,” and women don’t feel like they have more choices even with increased funding for this depraved industry.
Another Live Action investigative video is slated to be released today.
UPDATE: New AZ Investigation released yesterday.
