It is important to remind Americans that the president’s healthcare plan was sold as a
fix to our healthcare crisis. During arguments for and against the president’s healthcare
law, President Obama made a number of promises. The most famous promise has
become the most damning indictment of his singular legislative achievement.
“If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like
your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No
one will take it away.” (Barack Obama, “Obama: ‘If You Like Your Doctor, You

We now know that promise is not true, that many senior citizens, college students, and
middle-class Americans will lose their coverage if the law continues.
A new ad by the group Concerned Women for America makes that point.
The ad closes with the question; “President Obama promised my patients that they
could keep me, but what if because of this new healthcare law I can’t keep them?”
Another promise busted by time is the cost of the healthcare law. The law is now
projected to cost almost two trillion dollars, double what was originally promised by the

law. We cannot afford to raise taxes, cut Medicare, and borrow more from China in
order to pay for a law that Americans did not initially want and does not even work.
