2010 Candidate Interview: Francis Treadwell (R-MD)

Francis Treadwell was the elusive 5th GOP candidate running in Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District. He has no web presence and it took some doing to find an email address to contact him. When I finally contacted him, he said he was more than willing to participate in an email-based interview. What follows are his answers to my questions.

Matthew Newman: Without a current web presence, I was unable to determine much about your candidacy. Can you please tell my readers a little about yourself and your background?
Francis Treadwell: I’m currently a full time employee of Baltimore County for the past 15 years working in the radio shop as an electronic mechanic then promoted to electronic technician. I also have worked part time for the past 10 years at Valley View farms in the nursery. I help run the family farm with my mother and sell our vegetables at the Carroll County farmers market in Westminister, MD.

I have worked on Ellen Sauerbrey’s campaign for house of delegates and her run for Governor. I have also worked on Helen Bentley’s campaigns for Congress. Just in small capacity’s handing out fliers, phone bank and door to door.I’m also executive board member of Local 921 AFSCME Union. I have been in contract negotiation on labor contracts with Baltimore County. I’m not married and no children.

MRN: What made you decide to run for Congress?
FT: Just the way the country is being run spending money like it’s going out of style. Making people think government should be all end all to all the problems of the world.

MRN: If you had to grade our incumbent, Dutch Ruppersberger, what grade would you give him and why?
FT: F He’s a rubber stamp for everything his Democratic Party wants.

MRN: What are your thoughts on the “Repeal It” movement led by the Club for Growth regarding the recently passed health care reform legislation?
FT: I want it repealed but we must have something to take it’s place not just be the party of No.

MRN: What are your views on abortion?
FT: Only cases of incest or rape, but would say to them if I could two wrongs don’t make right.

MRN: If elected, what would be the first piece of legislation you would propose and why?
FT: I would want a 75-15-10 Budget proposal. Meaning 75% of revenue taken in would be used for the entire annual budget,15% put into a rain day fund and 10% to reduce the deficit. Also a national lottery used only to get the deficit down.

MRN: What do you feel is the biggest issue facing our nation today?
FT: The economy and the National Debt.

MRN: How do you feel your experiences help qualify you for this position?
FT: I’m a part of the working class its put me in a position to hear whats going on and what’s directly affecting the voters.

MRN: You come into this race without the political experience of the incumbent. If you get through the primary, how do you expect to challenge such an experienced candidate?
FT: I ask what their experience has done for us Higher Taxes, Higher Unemployment, Higher Foreclosures and Higher Debt.

MRN: In closing, what is one thing you want to ensure that potential voters know about you / your candidacy?
FT: That I’m about reducing the National Debt,Helping small business get back on their feet and get the economy rolling again. Reducing the size of Government.

Mr. Treadwell said he will be attending the debate on August 30, so those who are interested in learning more – please attend and ask him your questions during the open floor section.
