By now, unless you’ve been living anywhere but under a rock, you’ve heard about Obama trying to take Christians down a notch,
“We see sectarian war in Syria, the murder of Muslims and Christians in Nigeria, religious war in the Central African Republic, a rising tide of anti-Semitism and hate crimes in Europe, so often perpetrated in the name of religion.
Unless we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ,” Obama said. “In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”
I don’t know who the “We” is that Obama thinks he is a part of. “We” certainly doesn’t include Christians because the first sin of Christianity is pride. No one needs to warn Christians against pride. That warning is an integral part of the Christianity.
Look a little closer though and you’ll see there are two parts to what Obama said. The first, mostly unnoticed part, is the premise that what we see from Muslims isn’t really Islam and Franklin Graham had a great response,
This is a very good point. Christians try to emulate Christ. Jesus didn’t kill innocents. Killing an innocent isn’t Christ-like. Jesus healed sinners and brought people back to life. On the other hand, if followers of Mohammed feel justified in killing then who did Muhammad have killed? A good Google search finds this link. It documents forty three different times where Muhammad had someone killed or approved of killing after the fact. The first is a Jewish woman who made fun of other Jews for trusting Muhammad. The second is a Jewish woman who made fun of Muhammad himself and so on. Over a dozen times Muhammad had people killed just for insulting him or making fun of him. Most of the time the offenders made up poetry mocking Muhammad. That’s right. Muhammad ‘s victims were much like Charlie Hebdo who also mocked Muhammad.
So not only is Obama and the rest of the Left wrong on their first pass through history, they are wrong on their second pass too. They are wrong to say that people who kill those who mock Muhammad aren’t truly Muslim. Muslims believe Muhammad is the perfect man (Al-Insān al-Kāmil) and by emulating his actions and following his words they too hope to achieve perfection. Not only is killing those who mock Muhammad a part of Islam, it is objectively correct to say it is a perfect expression of Islam.
