Along with general ineptness by the Broward County Sheriff at all levels, what we also have here is a failure to communicate.
The feverishness of the DO SOMETHING crowd is still ongoing, but we still don’t need big changes in the law, IMO. Data integration is not as sexy or high-sounding, but what Broward County needed–in addition to competently enforcing the laws they already have in place–was a change in policy. There were so many off-ramps, i.e., ways to get the Parkland shooter out of circulation and unable to legally acquire any firearms. It’s gobsmacking how badly this Florida county (and the FBI) botched it.
