Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch has been called many things: “Eric Holder in a skirt.” “The fifth liberal vote on the Supreme Court.” “The woman who lied under oath.” Repeatedly.
But she will be “history” unless McConnell allows Biden to cheat her way to confirmation.
Lynch will be filibustered. And the “black-letter law” of the Senate rules requires 60 votes for cloture on her confirmation.
Sure, Reid ignored the rules over and over again. And, like a school yard bully, he has claimed that his 51 votes allowed him to do anything he wanted.
But riddle me this:
Barack Obama has ignored the Constitution over and over again. Does this mean the Constitution no longer exists? Does this mean it is ILLEGITIMATE to even invoke the Constitution anymore? Or, in fact, that it’s ILLEGITIMATE to refuse to rip the Constitution apart in the same way Obama has done?
But this is exactly what one high-ranking Senate staffer is currently arguing: She is arguing that Republicans are now bound to violate the Senate rules in the same way that Reid did. And that failure to honor and replicate Reid’s illegal actions is somehow worse than repudiating Reid’s illegal actions.
My reaction to this is:
Really. What have you been smoking?
Chuck Schumer and Pat Leahy clearly believe they run the Senate. And they believe that, by getting up and spewing bile at GOP senators, they can intimidate Republicans into giving Obama another victory — on an issue (the Lynch nomination and her support for executive amnesty) which is overwhelmingly opposed by Republicans.
But, under the black-letter law of the Senate rules, this requires 60 votes. And Democrats will almost certainly fall short of that.
And the only way around that reality is for the Republican Senate to newly affirm [mc_name name=’Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’R000146′ ]’s “cheat scheme.” To facilitate the reaffirmation of Reid’s “cheat scheme,” Joe Biden is expected to assume the Chair.
You remember Joe Biden? He’s the guy who forged his entire biography in order to run for president.
And Biden will claim that he is a little deity, whose words and rulings cannot be challenged by mortal men.
But the GOP has 51 votes in the Senate now. And they have the right to appeal Biden’s unlawful actions. If if they allow [mc_name name=’Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’R000146′ ], Chuck Schumer, Pat Leahy, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden to continue to run the Senate with 46 votes, they will have earned all the contempt which will surely be heaped on them.
