The Company One Keeps

The newest water cooler talk is all about the manipulation of what passes for news.  Those of us who have been speaking out about the obvious manipulation of “news” by the press are about 6 years ahead of the curve on this one.  We sounded the alarm that the propaganda arm of the Obama administration spent the better part of 2004-2008 excoriating president Bush while giving lever left leaning politician a pass on bad behaviors and questionable ethics.  From the obvious fake document drop of Dan Rather and the release of matters of national security by the New York Times to the 2008 campaign of then senator Obama, the press jumped the shark on credibility and principles and has never regained the public trust.

2010 vindicates those of us who have constantly been drawing the lines and illustrating the behind-the-scenes relationships that have been used to manipulate the public and shape voter opinion.   Ezra Klein, an American blogger for the Washington Post and a columnist for Newsweek, created the Journolist forum in February 2007 and shut it down in June 2010.  Members were all academics or “journolistas” with Marxist or socialist leanings who colluded to influence the 2008 election for their own gain.  To further their own agenda they used each other and allowed themselves to be used to further an anti-capitalist and anti-freedom agenda while shrilly screaming about how the media was too conservative.  Companion sites to check out are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

From WND and New Zeal we learn some of the key players in the JournoList  scandal:  Weather Underground terror group founders William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn; John B. Judis, senior editor at the New Republic and a contributing editor to the American Prospect; Frida Berrigan, contributing editor and a member of the editorial board for In These Times.

New Zeal identified 8 more members:  Robert Kuttner of The American Prospect, had close ties to the Obama campaign and Administration; Parag Khanna, Senior Research Fellow, American Strategy Program and Director, Global Governance Initiative, at New America, provided “expert” foreign policy advice and opinion to Barack Obama‘s Presidential campaign. Khanna also spoke at the Change the World conference, hosted by Britain’s socialist Fabian Society on January 19, 2008;  Shannon Brownlee; Michael A. Cohen;  Tim Fernholz;  Christopher Hayes – Schwartz Fellow N.A.F. Former senior editor of In These Times, Washington editor of The Nation. In April 2010 Hayes spoke at a Georgetown University, seminar “Labor, the Left, and Progressives in the Obama Era” with Barbara Ehrenreich, Gerry Hudson and Harold Meyerson of Democratic Socialists of America and fellow “JournoLista” and D.S.A. associate Michael Kazin;  Daniel Levy, one of the of the Democratic Socialists of America influenced JStreet organization;  Sara Mead;  Mark Schmitt -Senior Research Fellow, American Strategy Program N.A.F. Former Director of Policy and Research at George Soros’ Open Society Institute;  Steven Teles;  Jeffrey Toobin who likened the group to a virtual coffeehouse.

According to New ZealAt least eight strong were centered on another organization, which has close ties to the three highly influential power centers – financier and “change agent” George Soros‘ , internet giant Google and DC based non profit Free Press– accused by its opponents of aiding Obama Administration attempts to censor and manipulate information on the internet.

The organization in question, the Washington DC based New America Foundationhas close ties to the Obama Administration, stretching back to Obama’s alma mater Occidental College in the early 1980s.

Frida Berrigan represented the socialist dominated War Resisters League on the Steering Committee of the communist dominated United for Peace and Justice in 2007. In 2009 she was a Contributing Editor and a member of the Editorial Board of Chicago based socialist journal In These Times, where she served alongside former Weather Underground terrorists and Obama associates Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, Sid Hollander of Democratic Socialists of America and David Moberga veteran of the Gramsci/Marxist New American Movement and the 1976 Weather Underground organized National Hard Times Conference.

75 other members are revealed on Free Republic, all with the same MO.  Andrew Breitbarthas offered $100,000 for the entire 400 member list; the same $100,000 that he didn’t pay out for eveidence of racial epithets hurled during the march of the Pelosi during the Obamacare debacle; the event never happened so the same money is being offered for this J-list.

According to Wikipedia:  After Klein shut down JournoList, a new group, calling itself “Cabalist” was fictitiously started by Jonathan Cohn of The New Republic, Michelle Goldbergand Steven Teles. The group, which had 173 members by late July, was made up mostly of former Journolist members. Its existence managed to stay secret for several weeks, until The Atlantic magazine correspondent Jeffrey Goldbergrevealed its existence in a blog post on July 21. Goldberg reported that one recent discussion concerned whether or not members should ignore the articles on The Daily Caller website. “In other words, members of Journolist 2.0 were debating whether to collectively respond to a Daily Caller story alleging—inaccurately, in their minds—that members of Journolist 1.0 (the same people, of course) made collective decisions about what to write”

With members scrambling for another rock to crawl under and regroup, maybe they can go back to their jobs, but a skeptical public that now KNOWS beyond any doubt that impartial journalism is dead in the mainstream media will never look at them with the same eye.
