I’ll give BO credit for one thing. He’s been able to piss off more of his core supporters in a really short time than I would ever have thought possible.
Let’s see now, and since I’m doing this from memory, I’ll miss some stuff but there’s been…
- The immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
- Letting the rich people keep the government’s money that Bush wrongly gave back to them.
- Naming hispanics to high ranking positions (one said “NO” today).
- Not hammering Bush on throwing money at the UAW.
- Waffling on “Don’t Ask…”.
He’s taking on the wackos in California who are attempting to make everybody who donated a dollar in support of Prop 8 pay some mystical ultimate price. From Politico…
Barack Obama’s choice of a prominent evangelical minister to perform the invocation at his inauguration is a conciliatory gesture toward social conservatives who opposed him in November, but it is drawing fierce challenges from a gay rights movement that – in the wake of a gay marriage ban in California – is looking for a fight.
Rick Warren, the senior pastor of Saddleback Church in southern California, opposes abortion rights but has taken more liberal stances on the government role in fighting poverty, and backed away from other evangelicals’ staunch support for economic conservatism. But it’s his support for the California constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage that drew the most heated criticism from Democrats Wednesday.
“Your invitation to Reverend Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at your inauguration is a genuine blow to LGBT Americans,” the president of Human Rights Campaign, Joe Solomonese, wrote Obama Wednesday. “[W]e feel a deep level of disrespect when one of architects and promoters of an anti-gay agenda is given the prominence and the pulpit of your historic nomination.”
Heh. And again I say, heh.
Lemme be real clear about this Barack baby. Having Rick Warren drop by for an invocation – or anything else – ain’t gonna endear you to social conservatives. You want to make points with “those people” think about extending the Mexico City policies and not overruling the current restrictions in place with regard to the slaughter of unborn children. Oh, and tell your folks that the FOCA thingy is off the table, not gonna happen.
We may be registered members of the StupidParty™ but we’re not THAT stupid. You are on record as favoring a world where there are absolutely no restrictions or restraints on abortion and you’ve worked to block legislation that would stop and would punish infanticide resulting from botched abortions. You’ve got a long way to go before you’re seen by people who hold life sacred as anything but the enabler of butchers.
So, have a nice day with Pastor Warren. I’m sure he’ll do a credible job with the invocation thingy. I’m sure he’ll even get all the way through it without asking God to damn America. Don’t expect any expression of grace from me on your motives though.
Oh, and as far as your gay friends are concerned, I hope they boycott your magical day. Or maybe refuse to serve in your administration. Or demonstrate in drag outside the White House every day you’re in office. Or maybe they just don’t have the cajones to take on somebody other than ordinary citizens who thought they could express their opinion at the ballot box.
