Open Letter to the Republican Leadership

I wrote this letter this afternoon and sent it to Michael Steele and John Boehner. Likely outcome is that they will not bohter to read it, but its worth a try.

January 5, 2010

Office of the House Republican Leader

The Honorable John Boehner:

Mr. John Boehner

I am writing to you not as Republican but as an American, a daughter, a wife and a mom. I am sure by now you know that that the democrats are having their closed-door meetings starting today. It appears Speaker Pelosi and the Senate Majority Leader Reid will chart out the final draft of the healthcare bill, shutting out the Republicans and the rest of America. We the people do not want this piece of legislation. That is why we, the people have participated in rallies around the country, written letters to our representatives, sent faxes and email, and made countless phone calls, trying to stop this run away train before there is a fatal collision yet we have been ignored. I realize the democrats are in control of the government and that all checks and balances are gone. All the same, Republican senators and Congressman have had the opportunity to stop or delay this co called “reform”; but they chose to go along to get along. I think it is time that you and the rest of the Republican leadership put your money where your mouth is. It is time for you to rally to our country’s defense.

For that reason I respectfully suggest that the party as a whole, with you as the head of the group denounce the democratic leadership for bribery, the President for his willful violation of the Constitution, and refuse to go along with this hijacking of America. Furthermore, I suggest that all the Senators and House members physically stand outside the closed-door negotiations, and demand to be included in this landmark piece of legislation. Refuse to leave until you can take active part in the negotiations. Mr. Boehner, the time for placating the people has gone by. The republican party‘s day of reckoning is here.

Republicans in Washington, Arise! Speak up for the people you are honored to represent. Protect the Constitution you swore to uphold. If you cannot or will not do the right thing for America now, at least have the decency to get out of the way, please.
