The investigative arm of the Homeland Security Department appears to be shutting down websites that facilitate copyright infringement.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has seized dozens of domain names over the past few days, according to TorrentFreak.

ICE appears to be targeting sites that help Internet users download copyrighted music, as well as sites that sell bootleg goods, such as fake designer handbags.

The sites are replaced with a note from the government: “This domain named has been seized by ICE, Homeland Security Investigations.” ‘Homeland Security seizes domain names’  By Sara Jerome – 11/26/10

Well, thank God they’ve finally figured out how to most efficiently keep us safe from knockoff designer handbags.  Remember, ICE is the agency about which Obama said, ”

“The system isn’t working…when communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids; when nursing mothers are torn from their babies; when children come home from school to find their parents missing; when people are detained without access to legal counsel,” Obama told representatives of the National Council of La Raza before his election as president.  World Net Daily July 14, 2008.

So, at least he’s kept a campaign promise to the socialists at La Raza.  He’s making the world safer for Hollywood musicians and studios.  Meanwhile the southern border of our country is a no-travel zone and Mexican drug cartels continue to kidnap and kill both Americans and Mexicans who dare cross them.  Only twelve days ago this report appeared, without further comment at CNN.com;

Ciudad Juarez, Mexico (CNN) — At least five men were killed when attackers wielding assault rifles raided a bar in this violence-plagued Mexican border city over the weekend, authorities said.

At least nine others were injured during the attack, which occurred early Sunday morning after people had packed the “Desesperados” bar to watch the Manny Paquiao-Anotonio Margarito boxing match, Chihuahua state prosecutors said.  November 15, 2010.

So, while Ciudad Juarez, a football field away from El Paso, ignites into druglord violence, we are busy shutting down music sharing sites which are no doubt threatening hundreds of dollars in losses for Hollyweirdo millionaires who will be forced to cut back on the bling in order to donate to the Obama reelection campaign.  That existential threat is what really drives policy in this country today.

In fact, it seems we are engaging ICE agents in the important work of copyright and patent protection while pretending the flow of immigrants into this country has nothing to do with terroristic attempts.  At the same time they are shutting down electronic media outlets that undermine our safety with faux designer belts and shoes, we are finding more threats from Somalia.  From William McCall at the AP, this;

Yelling “Allahu Akbar!” — Arabic for “God is great!” — Mohamud tried to kick agents and police after he was taken into custody, according to prosecutors.

“The threat was very real,” said Arthur Balizan, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. “Our investigation shows that Mohamud was absolutely committed to carrying out an attack on a very grand scale,”

Nineteen year old Mohamed Osman Mohamud had been played by the FBI which made the teen a fake bomb the lad then tried to blow up at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, Oregon.  This sting follows the arrest of dozens of financial supporters of the Somali group al-Shabab, a group affiliated with al-Quaeda.  Too bad we cannot find a connection between these failed and attempted terrorists.

According to Hartford Courant May 9, 2010 article by Andres Oppenheimer, ”

“First, there are many U.S.-born terrorists. Just remember the 1995 bombing of an Oklahoma City federal building by Timothy McVeigh, which left 168 dead and injured more than 500; or “Unabomber” Theodore John Kaczynski, who carried out a campaign of deadly mail bombings in the ’80s and ’90s.”

Obviously, the teen from Oregon, the Panty Bomber, the Fort Hood shooter, and the Times Square bomber should all be lumped into the same category as Timothy McVeigh and the Unabomber.  After all, we are looking to put like things together and the Marxist Unabomber, who lived on a compound in Montana, and the uber-kook McVeigh who wanted to ‘punish’ the Feds for Waco and Ruby Ridge are almost exactly the same kind of terrorist as someone yelling “Allah Akhbar” and trying to shoot up a room or blow up a bomb.

Nor do these jokers want to use time-tested, effective methods of finding actual terrorist and not groping Granny.  In an interview with Candy Crowley, John Pistole of the TSA said this;

…PISTOLE: Well, I think the Israeli model, which a number of people have talked about, uses intelligence in a different way, profiling. And then if in terms of a pat-down, if they suspect you of something, you receive a very thorough pat-down there.

That is top-notch security. The question is, do we profile here in the U.S.? No, we don’t. So how then do we use intelligence that informs the decisions and judgments. And given what we saw from last night in terms of this new Web publication that describes in detail how the cargo bombs were done, how the design concealed, and how they are using technology to disguise and defeat the screening mechanisms we have in place, look, it’s a difficult question, Candy.”

So, even though we know the Israeli model works, we can’t use it because it could make someone feel sad, blue, put-upon.  We must feel-up eight year-olds that are completely outside any profile, and ignore someone sweating profusely, muttering prayers about virgins, and traveling on a Yemeni passport, one way, paid in cash, all alone.

Furthermore, Pistole explicitly admits in this interview that what they are doing isn’t good enough.  His remark, “they are using technology to disguise and defeat the screening mechanisms we have,” admits their strategy is pointless.  Every time they plug a hole in the leaky weapon-ban dike, the terrorist networks figure out another way to make another hole.  So, instead of finding the terrorists, which is the real point, we are busy measuring the amount of liquid in little shampoo containers and finding that fingernail clipper you thought you’d lost at the bottom of your carryon.

But, you’d never know it by listening to these morons.

In remarks before the Senate in a report entitled, “Nine Years After 9/11: Confronting the Terrorist Threat to the Homeland” Statement of DHS Sec Janet Napolitano before the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Napolitano appeared completely at a loss as to the Islamo-fascist threat to the country.  In fact, she reiterated her belief it is Americans who are the real threat and not foreign agents.  She said, “And the profiles of Americans who have been arrested on terror charges, or who we know are involved in terrorism overseas, indicate that there is no “typical” profile of a homegrown terrorist. While we work to address violent extremism, we must acknowledge that there is much we do not know about how individuals come to adopt violent extremist beliefs.”  She’s worried about Americans, who are a tiny splinter of those who are attacking us, insisting on isolating just them and not the vast network of Al Quaeda and associated groups who are actually doing the damage. 

Napolitano is just reiterating the basic premise this administration had adopted.  In essence, they are unwilling to confront the actual sources of terrorism and are obsessed with internal enemies.  Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Fox News represent a far more important and credible threat to these people than any Islamo-fascist ever would.  They are trying to find some connection, any linkage, between their critics and ‘enemies’ and a terrorist event.  The fact none exists only infuriates them. 

So, they run around arresting online music exchanges and ignore the evidence in front of them.  Then, when an actual terroristic event occurs, it will be used as a way to clamp down on more American freedoms, all in the name of safety.  Perceived threats trump real threats in the minds of these people.  It is their perception of the world which threatens us.  We are the real problem, in their mind’s eye, and not Islamo-fascists.  Such irony is evident in the AP article noted above.  When speaking to a Somali official in Mogadishu in regards to the nineteen year old Mohamud, the reporter noted this;

Somalia Foreign Minister Mohamed Abullahi Omaar said . . . “Mohamud’s attempt is neither representative nor an example of Somalis. Somalis are peace loving people,” said Omaar, whose government is holed up in a few blocks of the capital, Mogadishu, while much of the country’s southern and central regions are ruled by Islamist insurgents.

I wonder if we should be worried about Islamic terrorists? or, if we should be concerned about the pseudo-Gucci handbags.  Hmmm?
