The Pelican Brief

It appears, using the popular phrase by Kanye West, that our president hates pelicans, and fishermen, and the Gulf of Mexico.  Instead of doing something to fix the continued gush of oil into the gulf, the president is meandering about the country giving endorsements to the Huffington Post and caterwauling against the banks.  This kind of inaction would have caused the lame-brained media to excoriate any Republican establishment, but for the Socialist-in-chief, they are careful to blame Big Oil and the bureaucrats in charge of watching them.

However, we need to start the charge of how irresponsible this regime is when it comes to the environment.  They like to pretend they care when it comes to campaign contributions, but when the pelicans come home to roost, they are complicit in all matters environmental.  Politically they pick and choose winners and losers while our environment dies.

In his Earth Day sermon P.Bho said, “[a]nd by setting an overall cap, carbon pollution becomes like a commodity. It places a value on a limited resource, and that is the ability to pollute. And to determine that value, just like any other traded commodity, we’d create a market where companies could buy and sell the right to produce a certain amount of carbon pollution.

My question is, how many carbon credits are needed to offset hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico.  The Obama administration is seriously concerned about our exhalation, CO2, but seems indifferent to the disaster looming on our southern shores. But, not to worry.  The Big Brother regime has an answer to that question.

Robert Gibbs, press secretary extraordinaire of this regime quoted the benevolent Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and said, “[w]e will keep our, as Secretary Salazar said, our boot on the throat of BP to ensure that they’re doing all that they — all that is necessary, while we do all that is humanly possible to deal with this incident.  Absolutely.”  Now, I am not a physiologist or anatomist, but I think it might be a bit difficult for someone on the ground with a boot grinding into them to fix anything.  Call me crazy, but it seems like BP may do just any crazy thing in order to get the boot off its collective neck.  Meanwhile, the boot itself, instead of busily trying to find a solution to the problem, it engaged with grinding a neck instead.  Could be the federal government, in charge completely, with oil rigs in our waters, might consider doing something, anything, to stop the flood of toxic oil spilling into the waters and killing pelicans.  After all, what in heaven’s name have the pelicans done to this regime that would cause them to ignore their dilemma?

Well, Endorser-in-chief stated unequivocally that, “[g]overnment is what ensures that mines adhere to safety standards and that oil spills are cleaned up by the companies that caused them.  President Obama in the University of Michigan Commencement speech on May 1st, 2010.  This following a mine disaster and an oil spill.  Government doesn’t seem to be doing a very good job of insuring these things don’t happen.  In fact, his administration seems especially inept when it comes to doing the people’s, and pelican’s, work.  Oil continues to spurt into the Gulf a full three weeks after his ignoble speech.

But, the president doesn’t care what happens to the pelicans.  Instead he’s worried about our reading habits and our criticism of him and his regime.  “If you’re a fan of Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh, try reading a few columns on the Huffington Post website.”  Good lord, don’t mind the ecological disaster on our shores, just read the Huffington Post.  It does a body good.  Never mind that oil slick spreading toward our estuaries and nesting grounds, glance at the New Obama Times occasionally or the Washington ComPost.  They’ll tell you what to think.  They’ll also keep your mind clear of the fate of the pelicans, and this regime’s incompetence.
