Every so often something almost totally ignored at the time it was made finds its place in history. Such as it is with Pastor Matt Chandler’s 6 1/2 minute thundering assault on the insanity of abortion.
Chandler is pastor of The Village Church, a Southern Baptist congregation located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
Beginning his talk with pure science–that an 8-week-old fetus has a full set of working organs, can suck his thumb, dream, and respond to pain, Chandler then launches into a methodical reading of select passages from Salon writer Mary Elizabeth Williams’ brazen piece “So what if abortion ends life?”
Williams wrote her upfront and unapologetic defense of infanticide in January 2013–an article I daresay would be squashed even by liberal Salon editors today. As of yet, they haven’t taken it down.
Chander’s sermon was posted to YouTube in January 2014 when it gained a few views, but was largely lost into the maw of history. But now it’s come back, going viral on Facebook and other social media sites.
We bear reminding that liberals actually think this way. Here are the Williams quotes Chandler uses to illustrate the insanity.
Yet I know that throughout my own pregnancies, I never wavered for a moment in the belief that I was carrying a human life inside of me. I believe that’s what a fetus is: a human life. And that doesn’t make me one iota less solidly pro-choice.
And here’s the rationale.
Here’s the complicated reality in which we live: All life is not equal. That’s a difficult thing for liberals like me to talk about, lest we wind up looking like death-panel-loving, kill-your-grandma-and-your-precious-baby storm troopers. Yet a fetus can be a human life without having the same rights as the woman in whose body it resides. She’s the boss. Her life and what is right for her circumstances and her health should automatically trump the rights of the non-autonomous entity inside of her. Always.
Williams could get away with saying that two years ago, because nobody was looking at the reality of aborted baby parts. Nobody was comparing actual abortionists to actual Nazi storm troopers. But now they are looking, and they are comparing, and indeed, liberals like Williams fit the description. Perfectly.
