Harry Reid channels Strom Thurmond: Senate to Vote on #DefundPlannedParenthood

The Senate is going to vote on a “right wing crazy deal” (as [mc_name name=’Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’R000146′ ] calls it) before the August recess.  [mc_name name=’Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’P000603′ ] supplied the bluster, but [mc_name name=’Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’E000295′ ] along with a core group of senators pushed through a deal that will allow a floor vote on a bill to defund Planned Parenthood.

Reid channels Strom Thurmond here in an irrational defense of evil practices:

Minority Leader [mc_name name=’Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’R000146′ ], D-Nev., earlier in the day hinted that Democrats would not support any measure to defund Planned Parenthood, saying the plan was an “attack on women’s health.”

“We’re dealing with the health of American women, and they’re dealing with some right wing crazy deal,” Reid said.

When asked about different proposals being floated, including one that would divert money from Planned Parenthood to other groups that offer similar women’s services besides abortion, Reid said “Good luck with that.”

Democrats always forget their history when they defend evil.  Thurmond said this about the Civil Rights Act of 1964:

This bill, by vesting the power to withhold or terminate Federal funds, creates a concentration of power of economic coercion unequaled in the history of governments—a power concentration which defies the experience of mankind with the temptation of power to corrupt

The Senate will vote and senators will have to go on record with America whether they defend evil or oppose it.

If Speaker [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] will allow a floor vote in the House on a similar bill, we could see legislation placed on President Obama’s desk in August to defund Planned Parenthood.  Just in time for the Center for Medical Progress to release another video when he vetoes it.

So far, 140 House members are ready to vote ‘aye’ on such a bill.  Not voting is the coward’s way out.

How much of America has to be shocked beyond words for Congress to finally do something?  We are tired of the arguments about “we don’t have the votes” to override Obama’s veto.  It reminds one of arguments used in WWII to not bomb the railway lines leading to death camps like Auschwitz because it wouldn’t help win the war.

This war is righteous and it will be won, eventually.  Abortion, like slavery, will end in America.  Doing nothing because “we don’t have the votes” is a statement of surrender.  To our senators and members of congress:  we don’t want back room deals on votes, we want backbone.

To Americans:  call your representative and your senator today.  Call Speaker Boehner’s office at (202) 225-0600 and tell him we want the House to vote to #DefundPlannedParenthood before the recess.
