Congress is spending at a rate that now would embarrass most drunken sailors

I share the President’s concern on the economy–the reality is Congress is spending at a rate that now would embarrass most drunken sailors and we can’t allow that to continue, that is going to hurt the economy in the long run.  I look forward to working with the President to make sure we can stabilize this country.  Like most families across this nation they have had to tighten their belt, they’ve had to make choices and set priorities and frankly, Congress has to do that.  I appreciate the President’s discussion about fiscal responsibility; we need to take that to the next level.  I’m not going to agree that we meet our fiscal responsibilities by raising taxes on small businesses, especially at a time of economic recession.  Every economist I have spoken to says that could really damage our economy.  The only spending decrease we are hearing about is with the military at a time when we still have operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I am not sure those are the right priorities, but let’s have a national discussion about them and see where we can go.  Hopefully we can work together and come up with some solutions that are bipartisan and that are really going to help this country.
