Reaction to President Obama's news conference

By Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE)

The issue is creating jobs and saving jobs at a time when people across Nebraska and the United States are losing their jobs.  There is an earnest difference between the current stimulus bill and what many others, including myself, believe is the most effective use of taxpayer’s money to stimulate the economy.  The best plan is targeted small business tax cuts, the home tax credit with a real sewer, road and bridge infrastructure spending plan which is much less expensive and will create more and longer lasting jobs.  The President, while very forceful tonight, was not persuasive that Congress should accept a huge spending bill that can cause inflation and add a trillion to our national debt when a more viable plan exists.  The President I and want a quick recovery, but I just don’t believe this bill will accomplish what we want.
