From Wolfgang Petersen’s overblown movie, Troy, starring Brad Pitt as Achilles and Eric Bana as Hector:
In the Republican primaries, we had sixteen candidates striving to be like Hector, willing and able to fight, but to do so in a noble and respectful manner, and Donald Trump, who eschews the cordial, and who fights without giving any respect to his opponents, the lion who makes no pacts with men. In the film, Achilles slays Hector in single combat.¹
And thus his supporters see in Mr Trump the lion who will make no pacts with men, as the man who will take no abuse from anyone but will strike back, faster and harder, and carry the day.
Yet, in the end, Achilles also is slain, by an arrow shot by Paris.²
Mr Trump is a fighter, no doubt about that, but he is also a crybaby:

Typical. Last night was a rout, so obviously there had to be cheating:
Donald J. Trump withstood the onslaught of the establishment yet again. Lyin’ Ted Cruz had the Governor of Wisconsin, many conservative talk radio show hosts, and the entire party apparatus behind him. Not only was he propelled by the anti-Trump Super PAC’s spending countless millions of dollars on false advertising against Mr. Trump, but he was coordinating `with his own Super PAC’s (which is illegal) who totally control him. Ted Cruz is worse than a puppet— he is a Trojan horse, being used by the party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from Mr. Trump. We have total confidence that Mr. Trump will go on to win in New York, where he holds a substantial lead in all the polls, and beyond. Mr. Trump is the only candidate who can secure the delegates needed to win the Republican nomination and ultimately defeat Hillary Clinton, or whomever is the Democratic nominee, in order to Make America Great Again.
There is zero evidence of any illegal coordination by Cruz in Wisconsin, and the Sniveling Coward knows it. He says it because 1) it salves his fragile ego, and 2) it starts a discussion in the Idiot Media about whether there is evidence of Cruz cheating, even though no such cheating happened.
Nine-dimensional chess! Verbal Kill Shot!
Full disclosure: Patterico has been a supporter of Senator Cruz’s from even before he announced his candidacy, so it’s no surprise that he would write his post the way he did. Nevertheless, he most certainly didn’t make up Mr Trump’s campaign statement in “email from Mr. Trump’s spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, delivered first to The Washington Post, then to others upon request.”
Mr Trump is still playing the part of Achilles, still telling Hector that he will drag his lifeless body behind his chariot. The other sixteen — now down to two — Republican candidates didn’t behave that way, and I suppose that’s part of Mr Trump’s appeal to his true believers, but, in the end, Achilles is slain.
A recent poll by NBC News/The Wall Street Journal indicates that nearly half of Republican women would not vote for Mr Trump. Whether Mr Trump’s candidacy is slain by Ted Cruz in the remaining primary contests, or is slain by the delegates in a contested convention, or is slain by Hillary Clinton in November, eventually it will be killed. Like Achilles in Troy, we will remember his name, but his glory walks hand in hand with his doom. Donald Trump will never be President.
¹ – Homer’s epic poem, the Iliad, has the Prince of Troy killed when he remains outside the walls, standing his ground after initially fleeing from Achilles, while his army flees to within the city’s walls.
² – The death of Achilles is not mentioned in the Iliad, but comes from outside sources.
