It's the economy stupid (again)

An Oct. 4th Washington Post article reports that Senator McCain and his Republican allies are “readying a newly aggressive assault on Senator Barack Obama’s character, believing that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to questions about the Democrat’s judgment, honesty and personal associations…” Where Senator McCain scored points on these issues in the past I’m not so sure he’s going to be able to tip the issues scale back again in the midst of this economic climate today. The ignorant mindset of too many voters and the endless drum beat from the MSM has easily strapped this “crisis” around the White House. The questionable bailout, if a fix at all, will not remedy much in the economy by November and so the economy is now the number one issue until election day.

If McCain attempts to deflect economic issues by firing back with only statements on Obama’s character flaws (like Dole did with FBI file issues on Clinton)it will be perceived by many that he has no economic solution of his own. The link between the Housing crisis back to both Obama and the Democratic party and the link of Obama’s tax plan to people’s pocketbooks can be made into easily digested sound bytes for both McCain’s speeches and debate strategies. It does not require a degree in economics to understand the disaster of Obama’s economic plans. If the economy is the number one issue today then so be it. McCain should meet the issue head on with Obama and not run from it.
