What Do You Do When You Have A Bread Shortage ? Why Jail The Bakers Of Course.

From: The Very Merry Land of Venezuela

Facing a bread shortage that is spawning massive lines and souring the national mood, the Venezuelan government is responding this week by detaining bakers and seizing establishments.

In a press release, the National Superintendent for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights said it had charged four people and temporarily seized two bakeries as the socialist administration accused bakers of being part of a broad “economic war” aimed at destabilizing the country.

Well I guess socialism does work right up to the point you run out of other people’s dough.
The bakers have a somewhat different take on what is happening in the country

Juan Crespo, the president of the Industrial Flour Union called Sintra-Harina, which represents 9,000 bakeries nationwide, said the government’s heavy hand isn’t going to solve the problem.

“The government isn’t importing enough wheat,” he said. “If you don’t have wheat, you don’t have flour, and if you don’t have flour, you don’t have bread.”

He said the country needs four, 30-ton boats of wheat every month to cover basic demand.

Imagine that, you kneed flour to make bread.
Puns aside the sad and rather tragic story of Venezuela should leap from your mouth the next time a Sanders supporter or other idiot says “Look how well socialism works”. In under two decades a country that had one of the best economies in South America has been reduced to a basket case. Where every time the government fails, it serves as an excuse for the government to grab more power and extend their failure further. What’s more they require their people to accept the completely nonsensical, to get through the day. This country has vast mineral wealth, the largest proven oil reserves in the world, fertile farm land and even had a thriving industrial economy. Now look at it.
