On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted what is now known as the Declaration of Independence, which notified Great Britain that the thirteen colonies regarded themselves as independent sovereign states. Our nation’s founders wrote “…that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.” In 2014, we celebrated the 238th anniversary of the publishing of this famous document. It appears that we may be closer to another declaration of independence than we really know.
The United States is a divided nation that is now eighteen trillion dollars in debt, quickly retreating from its leadership role in world affairs, and allowing government agencies to turn on and abuse it citizens. As I write this article, America is in complete chaos. The Internal Revenue Service is targeting conservative groups and individual citizens for political reasons; the National Security Agency is spying on and data mining American citizens; the White House recently traded known terrorists for an alleged deserter, allowed an American ambassador and three others to be murdered, then supplanted false talking points to cover their malfeasance; the Environment Protection Agency recently announced that they have the power to garnish citizen’s wages; Health and Human Services is wasting billions of taxpayer monies on the Obamacare website; the nation’s southern border is totally unsecured as hundreds of thousands of illegals and other nefarious individuals come into our country; the Department of Justice has released thousands of alien felons (murderers and rapists) back into homeland communities; the Veterans Affairs Administration has allowed our men and women who served his country to languish and die, all while manipulating appointment information in order to collect bonus monies; the Department of Education is endorsing and promoting the common core agenda which violates child privacy, effectively changes curriculums in favor of political correctness versus truthfulness and directly eliminates parental involvement; taxpayer monies are being squandered to the point that citizens are proclaiming that they have been taxed enough already; and all the while the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is overrunning Iraq and establishing a caliphate state. Our country is a boat without a motor and the waves are swelling.
The Office of the President of the United States does not honor our nation’s Constitution and the roles of the other government branches as defined by this document. In the last two weeks, the Supreme Court ruled against the White House on two separate cases, which were immediately dismissed by this administration, in total disregard for the highest court’s authority. The other day, the President of the United States (POTUS) flew on Air Force One to Texas for fund raising activities, but failed to assess the border crisis while he was there, clearly displaying to the world that he had neither the leadership skills nor the intestinal fortitude to address and solve this problem. Without question, our president is not up for the task of executive leadership. Calling him a lame duck at this juncture is being kind by any measure.
The list of grievances in the Declaration of Independence presented by our founding fathers to King George as evidence of absolute tyranny is a mirror image of what I’ve just identified above, only in modern times. In my personal celebration of Independence Day, I attended a premier opening here in Virginia of Dinesh D’Souza’s newest movie, “America.” I believe that this movie raises some great questions and is a must-see. But I have to ask before we go any further: Is our nation too far gone to recover from this calamity? Have we gotten to the point of tyranny in this country that, as written in the Declaration of Independence, “it is the right of the people to alter or abolish” our current government because it is too oppressive? Is that even a possible course of action anymore?
This past week, POTUS and other liberals made a point to remind us that the children of the South American Countries entering this country illegally are escaping oppression and should therefore be afforded refugee status, forcefully processed into communities around the nation, given availability to healthcare and also provided legal representation at future court hearings, all which will be at taxpayer expense; thus the administration’s request to Congress for 3.7 billion dollars. I consider this request by the White House to Congress to be yet another bogus attempt at an illegal mandate. I believe that the administration’s actions constitute acts of oppression against the American people. The median individual share of the national debt is $60K for every American man, woman, and child, and that number will increase exponentially due to promulgation of a dangerous ideology: the notion that it is our government’s responsibility to take care of everyone in the world. Political opportunists are spending taxpayer money without regard for the rights of our citizens. We, the citizens of this once great country, are the ones being really being oppressed and it is time that we throw out the clowns and fools if we are to have any hope of saving our great land.
The United States of America is facing a watershed point in its history which will ultimately determine our future. I believe something has to give, and it will give soon. Our trajectory on the road to ruin cannot go on forever before the rockets run out of fuel and we begin the plunging freefall. The core of our nation’s ills is centered in our broken, out-of-control, and perverted political process. Today, men and women in the elite class compete for “elected” positions in the corrupt world called “politics.” Those who cannot afford to compete are effectively blocked from running for office. I know this first hand, having competed in a state–wide race and having been blocked out financially. The lack of principled candidates today should give us all pause.
Everywhere you turn, liberal politicians want your money and they want it badly. Based upon this obsession with every citizen and their money, I have come to the conclusion that we do in fact have a mental health problem in this country, and it starts with those in the political class, who spew some of the most outrageous (and downright insane) ideas and proposals. For example, liberals have openly advocated granting rights to foreigners coming to this country illegally even when doing so tramples on the rights of U.S. citizens. Those same liberals want to commit American taxpayer dollars to foreign nations under the guise of “aid.” They labor under the misguided notion that throwing trillions of dollars at a problem is somehow akin to leadership. They are not interested in solving our nation’s problems and they are only concerned with making money and appealing to their base.
Today, federal officials are not skilled problem solvers, nor leaders, nor former members of the armed forces, nor experienced in foreign policy affairs. Yet they have caused, by default or on purpose, our nation’s problems. Returning to my earlier assertion that corrupt politics are the source of our nations woes, politicians are going to extreme ends to remain in office. The recent Republican primary runoff in Mississippi between Thad Cochran and Chris McDaniel evidenced the incredible lengths a sitting member of Congress would go to in order to retain his seat; it also demonstrated the extent the other side of the aisle would go to keep that member in order, thereby furthering their own political means and ideology. If voter fraud is proven, I believe that the time for Congressional term limits is long overdue.
In a few months, many members of Congress will be facing what I hope will be the wrath of voters at the ballot box, as the mid-term elections will determine which party will control the Senate. It is a pivotal time for our nation. Between now and November, we have lots of work to do and we must get out the vote. We as a people and a nation cannot continue with this reckless and tyrannical style of government. I believe it is way past the hour to throw off the bonds of bloated government and their centralized control mechanisms in favor of a limited government and free market opportunity. It is time that we declare our independence from political cronyism and embrace the unalienable rights endowed to us by our Creator.
