Is the Fourth of July still the Fourth of July

The Fourth of July symbolizes a great day in our history, when we severed ourselves from the despots of the time and proclaimed independence and self-government derived from the self-evident truths “that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These „truths? formed the guiding principles, that our Constitution and Government rest. But modern times have trampled them. Although they have served us well, with each passing day we are being torn away from them only to be replaced by an all-powerful central authority that decides what is best for each of us, based on excellent sounding shallow phrases, feel-good laws, Madison Avenue packaging, and not much else. Too few wonder what we are truly being sold.

But the light of liberty is once again beginning to shine. This yearning to be free-to-choose is growing like it did way back then and these exceptional ideas are again being restored to life. Nurture them on every occasion and you will be helping to revive Liberty as the law of the land and to once again be envied as „the land of the free?.

Eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty.

This apt Andrew Jackson quote is both an opportunity and a threat enshrining the idea that the mere act of voting is a poor substitute. To preserve freedom, we must practice both.
