Liberty and Security

There are some who are concerned that any lapsing of the Patriot Act will lead to a terrorist attack.  The Progressives of both parties have done a good job of convincing us that we must accept violations of our Constitutional rights in order to save us from the danger we face from terrorism.  Should another terror act occur during any lapse or scale-back of the Patriot Act political opportunists will no doubt blame those who fought against the Patriot Act.  They would most likely use such an occasion to lobby for even more intrusive measures to seize more liberty and give more control to the government.

Any curtailing of the Patriot Act will not be responsible for the next terror attack in America.  Indeed the FBI has admitted that the Patriot Act has not contributed to a single major breakthrough in a terror-related case.  The Patriot Act did not stop the Boston Bombers, the Fort Hood shooter, or the Garland Texas duo.

What will be responsible for the next terrorist attack will be weak, politically correct policies that have denied the reality of the enemy we face.  The fact that we continue to import Muslims from terrorist hotbeds in the Middle East and Africa under the guise of asylum will contribute to the next terrorist attack.  The fact that we still refuse to properly administer our VISA program, allowing would-be terrorists to evade detection and remain in our country will contribute to the next terrorist attack.  The fact that we refuse to secure our borders will lead to the next terrorist attack.  The fact that we refuse to forcefully and decisively use our military defeat ISIS and other terror groups around the world will lead to the next terrorist attack.  The fact that we are planning to lift sanctions against Iran and allow them a path to a nuclear weapon will lead to the next terrorist attack.

Don’t tell me you need to collect all of my phone records when you won’t even keep track of the people to whom you are granting VISA’s.  Don’t tell me you need to collect my Internet records when you are relocating Muslims from Syria to America.  Don’t tell me you need to pat down my 2-year-old nephew at the airport when you are letting tens of thousands of people pour across our southern border, catching only some of them and releasing those you do catch into the general population.

Don’t treat me like a potential terrorist when you are too afraid to profile those most likely to commit acts of terror.

Don’t wage a war on liberty in America because you are too afraid to fight a real war (not some pathetic nation-building exercise) against the countries that foster terrorism.

It has been said that those who would trade their liberty for security deserve neither.  How much more liberty are you willing to give up to a government that is unwilling to do common sense things to keep you safe?  Is the government really this inept or is their real goal not to control the threat of terrorism, but instead to control the American people?  Consider that before you rally in support of the Patriot Act.
