Biden omits "under God" in Closing Statement

September 11, 2008Wilmington, Delaware

Joe Biden’s closing statment at the Hadassah-sponsored Delaware Debate forum drew audible gasps from the audience tonight at the Jewish Community Center in Wilmington. Read by his Campaign Manager (and neice) Missy Owens, Joe Biden omitted the words “under God” from Pledge of Allegiance.

The context of his two-minute closing statement revolved around his remorse at the loss of life on 9-11-2001. In doing so, he wished we would remember we are “One Nation, Indivisible, with Justice for All”.

Missy Owens read the prepared closing statement in the first person to the standing-room audience at the Debate that included candidates for U.S. Senate, Congress, Governor, Lt. Governor and Insurance Commissioner.

Biden’s famous “miscues” are typically spoken off the cuff, whereas this was a prepared, written statement.
