arrange for Mitt Romney to step in in his place (I assume this is somehow possible.)
Why? Well, he’s losing for starters.
Second, he would be *actually putting country first *by letting the most qualified and most competent person compete for the job at hand, which has now become centered around the financial crisis. Remember: Romney lived in the world of high finance and private equity, but emerged from it with zero negatives.
Third, think through the tactical consequences. We own the press for a long time. We are focused on the same opponent, while they have to invent a whole new playbook (and can’t, in time.) Not to mention that we are putting forward someone with actual credibility on the issue.
It could work!
