Read an interesting ‘classic’ weird news quip (scroll down to the bottom of the page for: A News of the Weird Classic (March 2011)) where a not so veiled liberal attack on second amendment rights is contained in a rather interesting take on the OK Corral.

“Tombstone, Ariz., which was the site of the legendary 1881 Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (commemorated in a 1957 movie), is about 70 miles from the Tucson shopping center where U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others were shot in January (2011). A Los Angeles Times dispatch later that month noted that the “Wild West” of 1881 Tombstone had far stricter gun control than 2011 Arizona. The historic gunfight occurred when the marshal (Virgil Earp, brother of Wyatt) tried to enforce the town’s no-carry law against local thugs. Today, however, with few restrictions and no licenses required, virtually any Arizonan 18 or older can carry a handgun openly.” Is what is says, see link above for reference.

Liberals love comparisons. It doesn’t matter if they compare only that they are similar to compare.

Such as: The O.K. Corral is actually 69.7 mi from Tucson, but liberals like to round things up too. Gee, how about that. U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot some 70 miles from where the Earps shot it out with the Clantons back in the day. 130 years apart they were. Their connection? They both featured guns.

Liberals also like to make things up. Virgil Earp was NOT trying to enforce the town’s no-carry law against local thugs. He was using that law as an excuse. (see the history.) “Carrying guns inside city limits was a violation of a town ordinance, and it provided Virgil, who was now town marshal, with an opportunity to arrest the cowboys. But there may also have been other considerations at play… Ike Clanton had openly threatened to kill the Earps…”

Just like the myth of the gun battle (all 30 seconds of it) the incident is being used to justify a completely different thing. The Earps were law officers using a local ordiance to hopefully not be killed. Nothing at all like the ‘no-carry’ control notion the myth above puts forth.

Liberals like to change the topic to make their pointlessness seem real.

Back in the day, people were not told they could not own guns. Local governments tried to stop gun fights by stopping people from carrying guns. People carried guns in holsters. Only card sharks carried pistols under their coats and they were not drunken gun fighters. No carry ordinances were not to take guns away they were to stop roudy cow pokes from shooting up the town. It was a method to control the peace. Outside of ‘town’ a gun was a man’s only protection. Today, no-carry is a method to control the people into no ownership. the Earps stood trial over the gunfight. That judge ruled them free to go.

Nothing at all like Giffords. And nothing at all true about gun control.
