Ruh Roh…Nancy REALLY stepped in it this time.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has accepted an invitation from San Francisco’s archbishop to discuss whether she should continue to receive communion at the Catholic Church in the wake of comments she made about abortion.
I think what entertains me most about this little bit o’ news factoid, is that somewhere, SOMEHOW, one of our Political Heroes has SOMEONE they actually have to answer to. In the case of Nancy trying to help set up the apologentia for Obama’s willingness to allow women to kill babies just whenever the heck they think they might want to, and still not hate himself in the morning over it, we find out that she may just actually have to answer for her transgressions…in the house of God.More Below the fold…
San Francisco Archbishop George H. Niederauer said he had received letters and e-mails from “many Catholics” expressing dismay over Pelosi’s remarks, in which she said the matter of when life begins remained controversial within the church. He said many of them questioned whether she should be able to receive communion from the church.
Pelosi made the remarks in an Aug. 24 interview with “Meet the Press” host Tom Brokaw after Brokaw said that the Catholic Church believes strongly that life begins at conception.
Her comments have been criticized by several Catholic Church officials, and Niederauer described them as being “in serious conflict” with the church in the Sept. 5 issue of Catholic San Francisco.
Niederauer concludes that, based on Catholic Church statements, it is up to him as Pelosi’s pastor to address whether she may continue to receive communion. He then invites the Speaker “into a conversation with me about these matters.”
Boy howdy, would I like to be a fly on the wall in THAT little chat. Incidentally, Pelosi thinks she’s going to change the subject when she meets with the Archbishop:
I welcome the opportunity for our personal conversation and to go beyond our earlier most cordial exchange about immigration and needs of the poor to Church teaching on other significant matters,” she wrote. ” I hope that we can meet at your earliest convenience.
“I join you in your hope and prayer that the Holy Spirit will guide our discussions in truth and charity and peace.”
I rather think the Archbishop will be more interested in discussing with Nancy just where the heck she gets off re-defining God’s intentions when he set up the whole sperm and egg thing to begin with. Most of the rest of us understand that God’s gift to us for being able to pro-create did NOT include helping us find ways to KILL the very gift He meant for us to have…well, except for Liberals of course.
I was struck by a Blog Post over at SayAnythingBlog that addressed the fool in charge of the People’s House trying to explain the supposed “difficulties” the Catholic Church has had, historically, with the issue of when life begins…to Tom Brokaw:
Brokaw: …“If [Obama] were to come to you and say ‘help me out here, Madam Speaker, when does life begin,’ what would you tell him?
Pelosi: “I would say that as an ardent practicing Catholic this is an issue that I have studied for a long time, and what I know is over the centuries the doctors of the Church have not been able to make that definition. And St. Augustine said three months. We don’t know. The point is it that it shouldn’t have an impact on a woman’s right to chose.”
hunh…the point actually IS related…and actually DOES have an impact on a woman’s right to choose. Today, a woman’s right “to choose” provides for her being able to commit murder in the name of declaring Uterine independence from “the man” and remains in place specifically BECAUSE those who would kill the unborn insist they aren’t actually “killing” anything because it isn’t alive yet.
Either Nancy Pelosi is no Catholic, or she is inhuman. It’s worth noting, as a close friend pointed out to me, that Pelosi has been vocally pro-choice for years and never had a problem receiving communion. As with a host of many other Catholic Democrats, it’s Pelosi’s attempt at re-defining Catholic history and theology that’s got her in trouble. There are important implications in that for the Democrats. Many Catholic Diocese may let you flaunt Church teachings but they tend to look with a more jaundiced eye upon attempts to lecture the church on what it truly believes, and for how long it has believed it. It is important for the Catholic Church to draw a line somewhere, though, and not permit historical revisionism by its most public adherents. I couldn’t agree more with my friend’s thoughts here, and I welcome this moment from the church, at Pelosi’s expense. To be raised in, and personally influenced BY, such a religious and spiritual environment one would think she would just stay OUT of the whole mess…heck, even Joe Biden ponied up about the issue of when life begins in the context of his OWN Catholic experience…and he was smart enough to stop short of arguing whether the official Church position was, or was NOT conflicted about the issue…instead suggesting that his religion was his, and everyone else was on their own.
Pelosi really really stepped in it this time, and she has to answer to God and the Church this time around. Here’s hoping the Church actually takes her to task on turning her back on her faith in the name of re-election stats…and holding her accountable finally for doing what she has done.
Gotta give the SayAnythingBlog the last word here…and “Rob” couldn’t be anymore right. Pelosi’s got a lot of ‘splainin’ to do…somehow I don’t think she’s going to be on the winning end of that little “come to Jesus moment” with the Archbishop:
As for when life begins, the reason so many Democrats like Obama and Pelosi struggle with this is because the answer itself is simple and terribly inconvenient for their position. Life begins at conception because at the point of conception begins a continuum of growth and development that does not stop until death. Trying to pick a point in that continuum and say “before this life doesn’t exist but after it does” is as absurd as saying the first three innings in a baseball game don’t count.
Life begins at conception. If you support abortion, you’re going to have to admit as Nancy Pelosi does (although I’ll bet she wishes now she hadn’t) that you are in favor of killing babies.
Yep…she is in favor of killing babies…she just doesn’t like that choice of words. So much for her platform of everything being “for the children.” She must have meant she’s for the ones that survive the womb experience and the Mother more worried about her own best interests than in those of the child God TRIED to gift her with.
